"Shut up, what's all this nonsense? If you hadn't been so clumsy earlier, I would have dealt with him by now."
"Let's get out of here first. We'll finish this job later."
Seeing the two cars preparing to turn off onto a side road, Da Chen's eyes flickered, and he quickly jerked the steering wheel.
"What are you planning to do?" Cui Tong, after a few words with the police on the phone, watched Da Chen drive up alongside them. "I trust you, but you still need to be careful. My wife and two little ones are waiting for me at home."
Da Chen didn't speak. Instead, he used the front of his car to ram the front of the closest car that was trying to escape.
With the effective cooperation of Da Chen and the police, the two men in the car were successfully arrested.
Cui Tong sat on the side of the road, unceremoniously spitting out the sourness in his stomach.
After he had vomited enough, he and Da Chen handed over the information about the Wang family hiring killers to the police.
Back home.
Cui Tong, feeling utterly weak, held Cui Mantong in his arms.
"Mantong, I almost died today."
Hearing this, Cui Mantong was startled and meticulously checked Cui Tong from head to toe before hugging him again. "What happened? You scared me to death."
"Those old relics from the Wang family actually tried to hire assassins to kill me, just like in the TV dramas," Cui Tong scoffed. "But those old fools were too stingy to spend money and ended up hiring a bunch of hooligans. And look, they were caught by Da Chen and the police."
The thought of the police looking at him with delighted expressions made him want to laugh. "I think the police might find a lot more if they follow this lead."
"It's good that you're alright. Do you know my right eyelid has been twitching all day? I was so worried something might happen to you."
"Don't be afraid, your husband is lucky. Most people can't kill me, and besides, I have Da Chen with me. Da Chen is very capable." Cui Tong said this with a hint of regret. "It's a shame, he's completely devoted to Wen Zhiyan. I've tried my best to persuade him, but he won't even listen to me."
Cui Mantong pinched the soft flesh on Cui Tong's waist.
"Ouch, wife, what are you doing?"
"Someone lent him to you out of goodwill, and you're trying to poach him?"
"I was wrong, I was wrong. I was just joking."
For the next period, Cui Tong cooperated with the police to follow the leads, and indeed uncovered quite a bit of tax evasion and the use of illegal means to steal trade secrets by the Wang family.
In order to list their company on the stock market abroad, they had even proactively handed over their customer data to foreign entities.
With this revelation, the Wang family suddenly found themselves in a situation where everyone was shouting for their downfall. Other enterprises, seeing this, tacitly moved to dismantle the Wang family's commercial empire, with Cui's Group reaping the largest profits.
"Mantong, why are you here?" Fang Miaomiao blinked in surprise as she saw Cui Mantong standing at the doorway.
"Don't even mention it." Cui Mantong waved her hand dismissively, her hand resting on her noticeably pregnant belly. "Cui Tong is too much. I don't want to deal with him, so I came to find you."
Fang Miaomiao quickly invited her in and asked a maid to bring fruit and water.
"Did you hire a nanny?" Cui Mantong asked, looking with surprise at the middle-aged woman busy in the kitchen.
In her opinion, Miaomiao and Wen Zhiyan didn't seem like wealthy people at times. They didn't live in a villa, and they didn't even hire a nanny. They only hired cleaning services when it was hard to clean, and a chef when they didn't want to cook.
Every time she asked, Miaomiao would say she didn't like big houses, finding them too empty, and that she was happy the way she was.
"Wen Zhiyan said my belly is showing and I need to rest well, so I hired a nanny," Fang Miaomiao said, a gentle motherly aura appearing on her face.
"So that's how it is." Cui Mantong curled up on the sofa, sighing enviously. "Wen Zhiyan is so good."
"Isn't Brother Cui good to you?"
Cui Mantong pouted. "He used to be, but I don't know what's been going on lately. I feel like he's acting strangely."
"Could it be because he's too busy?" Fang Miaomiao suggested. "I know a little about the Wang family's affairs. Maybe he's just been too busy lately?"
"Then tell me, does Wen Zhiyan get so busy that he doesn't come home? And when he does come home, he just falls asleep?"
Fang Miaomiao hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "That's not true."
Wen Zhiyan is quite good. When he's busy, he informs her proactively. When he's not busy, he stays at home, cooks for her, and gives her plenty of companionship.
"Anyway, I'm not going back." Cui Mantong said, sitting next to Fang Miaomiao and pouting. "Miaomiao, can I stay at your place for a while? I promise not to cause any trouble."
Fang Miaomiao patted Cui Mantong's head. "Of course, you can stay as long as you want. I'll tell Wen Zhiyan, and then, what do you want for dinner? I'll have Qian Ma make it."
"I want to eat hot pot," Cui Mantong said wistfully. "Can I?"
She hadn't eaten hot pot since she became pregnant, and she really craved it.
"Of course, you can. Then I'll have Wen Zhiyan send the ingredients over. Shall we have hot pot tonight?"
"Miaomiao, you're so good," Cui Mantong said, her eyes welling up.
Fang Miaomiao hugged her without a word.
Wen Zhiyan looked at the message on his phone before placing it on the coffee table. "Tell me, what's going on?"
Cui Tong looked dejected. "I made Mantong angry."
Wen Zhiyan raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying you don't love her anymore?"
"How could that be? You can doubt anything, but you can't doubt my love for Mantong."
They had been together for almost ten years; how could he not love her?
"Then what's going on between you two?"
"It's just that I didn't allow Mantong to eat hot pot," Cui Tong said, sounding helpless. "She cried, thinking I don't love her, and that I have someone else."
Heaven knows, he really didn't.
"That's not right," Wen Zhiyan said pointedly. "You must have really angered Cui Mantong. Pregnant women's emotions are already unstable. The fact that you've made Cui Mantong run away from home means this isn't a small matter."
Cui Tong sighed dejectedly. "A while ago, the company was hiring an assistant. I explicitly said no female assistants, but someone below blindly hired a female assistant. During that time, I was too busy, and she wasn't constantly under my nose, so I didn't pay much attention, even forgetting about it."
But something happened at that time. I had planned to dismiss her or have her transferred elsewhere that day, when that woman said she wanted to thank me.
I almost laughed out of anger. Even if I were to assume the worst of people, I wouldn't want to meet that woman.
The unfortunate thing was, as I was about to leave the company that day, a figure suddenly rushed towards me.
Before I could react, I was tightly embraced by something, and in the end, I could only watch as that woman, smelling strongly of cheap perfume, fell onto me.
Fortunately, at the critical moment, I bit my tongue. The stinging pain from my tongue made me snap back to my senses, and I took a few steps back, thus preventing that woman from achieving her goal.
