Fang Miaomiao looked at him with pitiful eyes, as if hoping she could save him. She couldn't help but laugh and cry. She ignored the ongoing spectacle and stepped forward, grabbing the woman's wrist.
"What are you doing?" the woman asked, her voice laced with suspicion as Fang Miaomiao held her wrist.
"Pretty lady, has anyone ever told you," Fang Miaomiao said, smiling sweetly but with a hint of coldness in her voice, "that if you can't touch someone, it's best not to harbor any wicked thoughts."
With that, and before the woman could retort, Fang Miaomiao forcefully pulled her aside and flung her away.
The woman yelped and collapsed onto the ground, clutching her leg and looking at Wen Zhiyan with tears welling up, "How dare you push me! Chairman, you have to help me!"
"Did you lose your eyes, or do you want me to demonstrate again?"
Upon hearing this, the woman's expression changed as she saw the chairman wouldn't help her. "I think you're just jealous! Jealous that I can accompany the Chairman to work, jealous that I can win his favor."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Rescued, Wen Zhiyan comfortably hid behind Fang Miaomiao, tugging at her clothes like a distressed child. "Wife, I really don't know her. I've never said a word to her. I'm being framed."
Fang Miaomiao leaned to the side, cupped Wen Zhiyan's chin, and tilted it upwards, her voice laced with a threat. "Shut up. I didn't tell you to speak, so don't speak. Do you understand?"
Wen Zhiyan blinked decisively and closed his mouth. He was a good husband; if his wife told him to shut up, he shut up.
"Why are you being so harsh to our Chairman? You're a shrew, you don't give our Chairman any affection at all!" The woman's tone shifted drastically as she started shouting again.
"If you babble one more word, believe it or not, I'll have Wen Yan'an open the door right now and call all the staff from the lower floors to come up and appreciate the original wife beating the little... woman who's trying to seduce the Chairman, and her graceful figure."
"You!" The woman was furious but dared not retort, fearing Fang Miaomiao would actually do as she said.
"Tell me, what's going on?"
"I like the Chairman. I've liked him since I started working here." The woman looked at Wen Zhiyan with a dazed, infatuated expression.
Wen Zhiyan quickly hid behind Fang Miaomiao.
Seeing Wen Zhiyan's action, the woman glared fiercely at Fang Miaomiao. "If it weren't for you, accompanying the Chairman, serving him tea, and conquering the business world by his side, it would be me."
"I suddenly realized I'm wasting my breath on you, aren't I?" Fang Miaomiao was amused to the point of laughter. The original host had absolutely no memory of this woman.
"It's you! Assistant Xin said so himself," the woman stated righteously.
"Wen Zhiyan, call Xin Xuanlai."
Her temper flared, and she was determined to get to the bottom of this today.
Wen Zhiyan dialed Xin Xuanlai's number as instructed.
Xin Xuanlai thought for a long time before finally recalling. He said that the Chairman felt he no longer needed a female assistant after getting married and had entrusted him with handling matters in the office.
The woman covered her ears in disbelief, her face a picture of impending doom. "How is that possible? That's not right."
Clearly, the Chairman's wife was just jealous.
"And, Chairman, don't you remember? Last time you saw me sprain my ankle, you gave me paid leave to go to the hospital."
"Isn't that normal? I would do that for any employee."
Tears welled in the woman's eyes, but her gaze towards the Chairman was filled with hope and affection as she tried to prove his love for her. "Then last time, during contract negotiations, when the partner forced me to drink, you turned around and left with the team, announcing you wouldn't cooperate with that partner. Wasn't that to stand up for me?"
"That was workplace harassment. The same applies if any of our company's employees faced such a situation, I would stand up for them."
Wen Zhiyan didn't particularly advocate for drinking culture and disliked people using contracts or drinking culture to take advantage of women.
He would rather forgo cooperation with such unethical partners.
"I didn't realize you were quite the gentleman," Fang Miaomiao praised, giving Wen Zhiyan a thumbs-up.
"It's what I should do." Wen Zhiyan wouldn't impose his standards on other companies, but he believed in separating from those with differing values.
"How could this be..."
Hearing this, the woman slumped to the ground, utterly drained. The light of love in her eyes dimmed significantly. "So, it was all my imagination. Heh, hehe."
"You are a woman and have been working at the company for quite some time. I won't hold it against you. However, your actions today have caused considerable trouble for my wife and me. Therefore, I'm very sorry, but you can no longer remain with our company. Please go to the finance department for your severance pay and leave."
After the woman left, Wen Yan'an entered the office. "Mom, what happened to that person just now? Where's Dad?"
Why did she leave crying?
"She did something wrong, so she can't stay at the company anymore." Fang Miaomiao opened the thermos and began arranging the food. "Your father is in the changing room getting dressed."
Wen Yan'an nodded, half-understanding. "If you do bad things, you definitely can't stay by our side."
"This food feels a bit cold," Fang Miaomiao murmured to herself.
"It's alright, Miaomiao, I can eat it."
Fang Miaomiao looked up at Wen Zhiyan, who had emerged from the changing room after changing his clothes. She put down the thermos. "Then you eat it."
"Dad, Mom and I are going shopping later. Can you pick us up after work?"
"Okay," Wen Zhiyan said gently. "I'll call you when I get off work, alright?"
"Isn't that a bit inconvenient?"
"It's what I should do."
Fang Miaomiao nodded and left with Wen Yan'an.
Only after they had completely left did Wen Zhiyan's expression turn cold.
"Hello, Lin Ma."
"Master Wen?" Lin Ma asked, sounding surprised when she received the call. "Are Madam and Young Master not at the company?"
"They are. I was just curious why Madam brought me food. She's still recovering."
"It was Young Master's idea. He said he wanted to go shopping and drop off food for Master Wen on the way."
Wen Zhiyan's eyes flickered. "Was there anything unusual about Young Master before lunch?"
"Unusual..." Lin Ma pondered for a moment and then suddenly recalled. "Young Master received a phone call. I don't know what was said on the other end, but he responded with 'uh-huh' a few times and then hung up. It was very quick, about two to three minutes."
"Alright, I understand. I don't want Madam and Young Master to know about this call today."
"Understood, Master Wen."
After hanging up the phone, Wen Zhiyan summoned someone from the human resources department for a brief discussion. Afterward, he gestured for them to leave and leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes, lost in thought.
