Su Ling’s interest was piqued by the zombie king’s words. "Why hide amongst the mountains and forests?"
Resting her chin on her hand, the intrigued Su Ling looked at the zombie king’s face, indistinguishable from theirs, and asked, "Since you crave flesh and blood, and have a great desire for it, shouldn't you be hiding amongst cities, preying on survivors?"
The zombie king explained to Su Ling, "If one completely transforms into a zombie, then the choice of flesh and blood would definitely be dictated by instinct, not controlled and manipulated by one's own brain."
"But it's a shame, really. I became a zombie with my human consciousness intact. So, I can't bring myself to eat survivors. Although I am a zombie, I have my own principles and bottom line. Not eating survivors is my self-restraint." The zombie king continued, scratching his head, "If I were to do so, it would be the greatest betrayal of myself, who retained human consciousness. If that day ever came, I wouldn't need any other survivor to kill me; I would kill myself."
Becoming a zombie was not his choice.
But not eating survivors was his choice.
Su Ling found the zombie king quite unique after hearing his words.
With that thought, Su Ling took some food from her space and placed it on the table.
Meanwhile, Shang Qi had already moved the Tang blade away from the table.
The zombie king looked at the braised platter and steaming hot meal box Su Ling placed on the table, and for a moment, he was confused. Was Su Ling hungry already during their conversation? Was it time to eat?
After placing the food on the table, Su Ling looked at the zombie king and gestured to the meal box and braised dishes. "Try them. See if you can accept them."
In Su Ling's opinion, it would be a good thing if the zombie king could accept them; she could let him keep them. This was, after all, the zombie king, and he still possessed human consciousness. If they could persuade him to stay, it would be beneficial and harmless to them.
The zombie king quickly understood Su Ling's intention. He grunted, picked up the meal box, and took a chopstick. He began to eat.
As the zombie king scooped up a mouthful of rice, he expected to feel repulsion, and he was prepared for his body to reject it. However, the repulsion he anticipated did not occur. Instead, he found the meal box far more delicious than the roasted chicken, duck, and rabbit he had eaten before. The animals he had roasted himself were half-cooked and still bloody, making it impossible to enjoy the food.
He picked up a piece of braised dish and ate it with his rice, savoring it. In a short while, the meal box and the braised platter were wiped clean, all of it filling his stomach.
After eating his fill, the zombie king looked at Su Ling and said, "It's been so long since I've eaten such delicious food. I truly miss it."
Su Ling had been somewhat worried that the zombie king wouldn't accept the food she offered. The reality proved her worries to be unfounded. Looking at the zombie king, Su Ling said calmly, "It seems you are like Xiao Jiang. If you still have a strong craving for flesh and blood, you can tell me. We slaughter poultry and animals every day, so we can save the fresh blood for you to satisfy your cravings. So, have you considered staying and joining us, becoming one of us, and working for us?"
The zombie king looked at Su Ling. He was tempted by the offer she extended, but he still had reservations. "Are you sure you'll let me join you? Aren't you afraid—"
"Afraid of what?" Su Ling interrupted him coldly. Looking at him, she continued, "You became a zombie with human consciousness and personality. You can restrain yourself, and I have great confidence in you. Besides, your eating habits are no different from ours. You'll eat the same things we do from now on. As I said, if you crave blood, we'll save the blood of poultry for you to satisfy your cravings."
