Shang Qi and Zhang Wenbin left to discuss turning Hai Shang Island into a base for doomsday survivors.
Zhang Wenbin had many questions for Shang Qi regarding the specific details and potential issues. He believed that Shang Qi, having come from the outside, possessed far superior knowledge of the outside world compared to himself, who had been stranded on the island. Furthermore, he genuinely desired to establish Hai Shang Island as a survivor base and offer assistance to those in need.
Su Ling did not accompany them. She moved a chair to sit under the eaves, watching everyone practice their abilities. The hailstones on the ground were battered severely; as soon as they fell, they were shattered by the abilities and turned into water.
When Jiang Jiang and Bai Yu Ling returned with the little zombie king, who had been washed and dressed in clean clothes, Su Ling was leisurely cracking sunflower seeds from a packet. She had even thoughtfully placed a trash can nearby, into which all the shells were discarded.
"Sister," Jiang Jiang called out, and together with Bai Yu Ling, they approached Su Ling. They sat to her left and right, appearing like her trusted lieutenants. The little zombie king walked in front of Su Ling, still clutching its banana, but its eyes were fixed on the sunflower seeds in Su Ling's hand. It was quite apparent that this was a gluttonous little zombie. After a bath and clean clothes, the little zombie king was fair-skinned and quite adorable. If one were to overlook its eyes and paper-white complexion, it would be easy to mistake it for a survivor rather than a zombie.
Jiang Jiang looked at the little zombie king and then said to Su Ling, "Its name will be Xiao Jiang from now on. It really likes this name."
Su Ling raised an eyebrow in agreement and then looked at Xiao Jiang, "Don't keep holding onto that banana. Eat it when you want to. I'll get you more after you finish." It was rather exasperating how the banana was already disheveled, yet it still clutched it possessively.
Xiao Jiang didn't understand Su Ling's words. It tilted its head and looked at Su Ling. It was only when Jiang Jiang spoke that it understood. Jiang Jiang brought a stool, placed it down, and gestured for Xiao Jiang to sit. After Xiao Jiang sat down, its eyes continued to fix on Su Ling.
Su Ling couldn't help it under its gaze and gave it a handful of sunflower seeds. Xiao Jiang, having received the seeds from Su Ling, quickly freed a hand to cup them together. Then, it stared at Su Ling and watched her crack seeds. Mimicking her, it began to crack seeds as well. Initially, its sharp teeth made it difficult to crack them, and it fumbled. Xiao Jiang then retracted its sharp fangs, revealing a row of neat teeth, and cracking sunflower seeds became much smoother.
Time ticked by. Su Ling didn't know how long she sat under the eaves or how many packets of sunflower seeds she had eaten. She only knew that those who had gone to practice their abilities gradually returned to the eaves, bringing chairs and stools to rest. Their abilities were depleted, their energy-replenishing water was consumed, and they were all exhausted, wanting nothing more than to collapse and not move. In contrast, Su Ling and her group remained quite energetic, while the island's residents were like frostbitten eggplants, listless.
The hailstorm continued unabated from noon until the evening, only stopping when the sunset clouds appeared. Everyone sat under the eaves, gazing at the fiery red sun on the horizon. Because the residents of the outpost had exhausted their abilities, they were too weak to move, so the responsibility of preparing dinner fell to Su Ling and her group. Considering how tired the residents were, they prepared a sumptuous feast. Su Ling retrieved food from her space: chickens, ducks, fish, pigs, cattle, sheep – a variety of foods that were difficult to come by on Hai Shang Island. The kitchen was filled with an abundance of food. Everyone had clear roles and cooperated to prepare an even more lavish dinner as a token of appreciation for the residents of the outpost.
