Jiang Jiang pulled the little zombie king's hand, looked at Su Ling, then at the little zombie king.
Perhaps because she was half-human, half-zombie, Jiang Jiang felt an inexplicable closeness to the little zombie king.
The little zombie king felt the same way towards Jiang Jiang; it really liked the aura of the person in front of it.
So, Su Ling and the others watched as the little zombie king, who was usually very attached to Su Ling and Shang Qi, took a step towards Jiang Jiang. It moved closer, snuggling against Jiang Jiang, extending its little claws to grip Jiang Jiang's clothes, still with that timid look. One paw held onto Jiang Jiang's clothes, and the other clutched the dwindling banana.
The little zombie king looked up at Jiang Jiang.
Jiang Jiang happened to be looking down at the little zombie king too. Their eyes met, and they shared a brief gaze.
Then, the little zombie king let go of Jiang Jiang's clothes, pointed at the personnel guarding the stronghold in the distance, then pointed to its own body, and gestured animatedly with Jiang Jiang.
Su Ling and the others watched from the side. Although they didn't understand, they could tell the little zombie king was complaining to Jiang Jiang.
After the little zombie king finished speaking, Jiang Jiang patted its head, seemingly comforting it.
In any case, Su Ling and the others could not understand their way of communication.
The little zombie king, comforted by Jiang Jiang, continued to cling to Jiang Jiang's clothes, moving even closer.
Su Ling watched, finding it rather interesting. She looked at Jiang Jiang and asked, "What is it telling you?"
Jiang Jiang touched her nose and relayed the little zombie king's grievances: "It says it was shot by the people at the stronghold, and it's covered in injuries. It hurt for a long time, and there are still many bullets inside its body that haven't been removed."
Hearing Jiang Jiang say this, Su Ling understood.
She wondered why the little creature was so afraid of the stronghold personnel. So that was the reason.
Su Ling continued to ask Jiang Jiang, "And what did you tell it?"
Jiang Jiang ran a hand through her hair and shrugged. "What else could I say? I told it the truth. I said they didn't mean to. They thought it was a monster that would eat people, so they shot it. It said it doesn't eat people; it only likes bananas and jackfruit."
Su Ling and the others: "..."
This little zombie is quite the character.
Su Ling smiled. "From now on, you'll be responsible for it. It doesn't eat people or harm them. If it likes bananas and jackfruit, then keep it. It's very useful. Teach it well; its learning ability is very strong."
Jiang Jiang nodded, "Understood, sister."
Upon hearing Su Ling's words, Jiang Jiang relayed them to the little zombie king. After listening to Jiang Jiang, the little zombie king looked at Su Ling. Its sapphire blue eyes were still the same, yet one could feel its current happiness, its affection, and closeness towards Su Ling.
Hail continued to fall, and the ground was already covered in a thick layer of ice.
The sun was strong but couldn't melt the hail quickly.
Zhang Wenbin looked at the increasing amount of hail in the courtyard and walked towards Shang Qi and Su Ling. "Let's go to the mess hall to eat and fill our stomachs before we figure out how to deal with this extreme weather."
Because the entire morning was spent on inspecting and rectifying deficiencies at the stronghold, it was an all-hands-on-deck situation.
Therefore, lunch was hot pot. Outside, hail was falling, and the sun was shining, but inside the mess hall, the sounds of hot pot bubbling could be heard.
Unlike the widespread power outages outside, the stronghold had electricity.
The meat and seafood they had plundered and brought back were all stored in freezers.
The table was laden with meat and seafood. The only thing lacking was vegetables.
Although there were some vegetables on the table, they were only some chopped scallions and garlic leaves from the garden, along with some long-lasting potatoes, onions, and Chinese cabbage.
Even so, it was a very generous spread.
