Snail Senior Brother

Chapter 221 Growing Pains

After I came down from upstairs, Fatty anxiously asked me, "How is it?"

"It's a trap."

I replied, and then called Lin Han, but her phone was off. The more you worry about something, the more it happens. Angrily, I smacked the car's dashboard. Fatty looked at me, pursed his lips, and asked, "Something bad happened, didn't it?"

"Give me the camera."

I carefully examined the photos. According to Fatty's surveillance, Li Wenwen had only been to two places during this time: home and the photography club. No one was at the photography club. Now, my only hope was to go to Li Wenwen's home.

...

Because the situation was urgent, Fatty ran two red lights. When we arrived, I saw that the lights were on at Li Wenwen's house. I quickly got out of the car. Li Wenwen lived on the first floor, a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment that looked like a rental.

The curtains were drawn. Through a gap, I saw a few tattooed men, shirtless, playing cards and smoking in the living room. The photography equipment was on the TV cabinet.

From this, I deduced that Li Wenwen intended to drug Lin Han and bring her back to her place for these men to assault. However, because Fatty and I acted quickly, we got there before them. Now, I couldn't contact Lin Han and could only wait.

The incident happened too suddenly, and I didn't have much information. There was no opportunity to set a trap now. Moreover, although my speculation was based on a certain foundation, these were not absolute logical factors.

...

"How is it?"

"Lin Han isn't here."

Fatty let out a long sigh of relief. "Then where do we find Lin Han?"

"The best approach is to wait here."

"Are you sure?"

Fatty's question made me uneasy. I wasn't sure, truly. Although everything seemed plausible, the victim was Lin Han. If anything went wrong, it would be an irreversible catastrophe.

"No, I'm going to ask those people."

I was about to get out of the car when Fatty grabbed me and rolled up the window.

"What's wrong?"

"That taxi is slowing down."

Fatty's experience was considerable. He saw the taxi slowing down. Sure enough, the taxi stopped at the entrance of this building. Li Wenwen helped a wobbly Lin Han out of the car. Then, Li Wenwen gave the taxi driver a bright smile, "Thank you, driver. My friend had too much to drink."

Li Wenwen was quite strong, propping up Lin Han. Lin Han kept her head down, her long hair obscuring her face. There were several tattooed men inside who made a living by taking explicit photos. Li Wenwen had brought Lin Han back in such a state. This infuriated Fatty. He cursed and was about to rush out of the car, but this time I grabbed Fatty.

"What are you doing? We have to save her!"

"The weight of a conscious person and a sleeping person is different. Li Wenwen is a woman; she shouldn't have that much strength. Besides, for the past two days, Fatty and I have been taking wedding photos, and we've done plenty of lifting and spinning. Lin Han isn't that light."

Fatty was stunned and tentatively asked, "Your sister is conscious?"

"Yes!"

...

After the taxi left, Li Wenwen looked at Lin Han and said with a smile, "With your celestial beauty, those men will be exhausted like dogs tonight."

"Oh, really? Do you want to join?"

Lin Han suddenly replied, then pushed Li Wenwen away, stood steadily, and met Li Wenwen's gaze.

"You... you didn't drink that wine."

"Wenwen, I've been through a lot over the years. I'm no longer the naive girl who could be easily drugged in a bar."

Hearing Lin Han's words, Li Wenwen's face twisted into an ugly expression. She pointed at Lin Han and said, "If it weren't for you, why would my father have broken my leg?"

"I didn't know before. After I took over my father's business, I investigated. Your father had a jade burial piece, a Tang Dynasty artifact. Without the corresponding historical context, even Han Dynasty jade would only be moderately priced. For your family, however, that jade was an immense fortune. Your father was far-sighted and had you approach me from middle school to become my friend. I knew my difficult personality; none of the naive classmates wanted to be friends with a girl who had princess syndrome. Only you, you stayed by my side. You knew this was your father's instruction, and my father knew too, but he didn't expose it because he didn't want my youth to be so lonely."

Li Wenwen's face turned livid with anger, and she shouted, "Lin Han, you don't deserve to have friends! You should have no friends your entire life."

"Is it because I have money?"

"Yes!"

Hearing Li Wenwen's answer, Lin Han smiled helplessly. "You've always been jealous of me, jealous of my talent, my looks, my wealth. You have none of what I possess, and I was born with all of it."

"That's not fair."

"That's fate's business, not mine. Do you know where you went wrong? Do you know why your father broke your leg? Because I genuinely considered you my only friend, yet you played dirty just to defeat me. All these years, I'll say it again about that competition: you gave me the questions I recited. You knew the teacher had added extra questions but kept them to yourself, just to beat me. That's right, first place in the written exam, you did very well. But in the interview, I completely beat you with my acting. Did you know? Before the exam, I called my father. If the principal interfered with my performance, I would never accept the antique business he founded. My father knew I was stubborn and not worth making a fuss over such a trivial matter."

Li Wenwen didn't believe it and shouted, pointing at Lin Han, "Impossible! Without the principal's help, how could your acting have helped you? Someone like you, what acting skills do you have?"

"Don't I? Then how did I trick you just now?"

Lin Han's slightly dismissive attitude left Li Wenwen stunned and speechless.

"Do you know? I lost that competition. I lost unfairly. I was defeated by your cleverness. If I hadn't trusted you completely, if I had just looked at one more question, I could have beaten you, but I didn't. I lost. I told my mother that I didn't want to be a supporting character; I wanted to be the protagonist. The protagonist I meant wasn't on stage in a drama club, but the protagonist of life. So, I also played a small trick. I called my father and threw a tantrum with my princess syndrome."

"You!"

At this moment, Lin Han's face showed some regret. "I was wrong. I thought our childish squabbles were just a game to adults. But that wasn't the case. Afterwards, my father taught me that our money isn't for buying things; it's for protecting us and for controlling the poor. Do you know? I was shocked at the time, but I didn't understand the meaning of 'control' until my father passed away. I learned about your family's situation. My father refused the deal he had made with yours, turning the burial jade, which could have sold for over a hundred, into a street stall item. Your family has been poor for generations. You could have turned things around with that jade. Just because you were unwilling to accept it, because you thought I was pretty and rich, things you couldn't match. But in terms of intelligence, I wasn't as smart as you. Yet, the fact is, I now manage a vast empire with my wisdom, while you have to sell your body and become friends with a bunch of unsavory thugs."

"Shut up! You shut up!"

Li Wenwen screamed uncontrollably and then shouted into the house, "Can't you hear? Come out and take this woman inside! I want her to pay the price! I want to make her even more debased than those slutty women."

The shirtless, tattooed men from inside came out. Seeing Lin Han's beauty, they revealed lewd smiles.

"This girl is really something!"

I opened the door to get out of the car. This time, Fatty stopped me, pointing to a golf cart that had arrived nearby. My attention had been on Lin Han, so I hadn't noticed the car. Seeing the car, I felt relieved because I recognized it as Yu Xiaoluo's car.

Lin Han took a step back. Two women unexpectedly got out of the golf cart: Yu Xiaoluo, dressed in sportswear, and Zhang Chengruixue, whom I also recognized, dressed in casual clothes.

The tattooed men chuckled, and a sinister look filled Li Wenwen's eyes.

"Did you pass your exam?"

"Yes, Sister Xiaoluo. Are we arresting these people?"

"They resisted arrest first, so we took action."

Hearing Yu Xiaoluo say this, Zhang Chengruixue's lips curled up, and she cracked her knuckles.

Lin Han had already raised her phone, pointing it at the tattooed men. When one of them tried to slap the phone away, Yu Xiaoluo stepped in front of Lin Han. "Police! I am now arresting you for the crime of assaulting women."

"You bitch, what are you talking about? Assaulting women? I'll assault you right now!"

Yu Xiaoluo glanced back at Lin Han. "That's enough. You've recorded enough."

...

At this moment, Fatty was still talking to me. "It looks like a fight is about to break out. Should we go down and help? There are only two female police officers, and these guys don't seem afraid."

"Help with what? Let's watch the show!"

As expected, these guys were beaten badly. I noticed that Zhang Chengruixue was more brutal than Yu Xiaoluo. Yu Xiaoluo had some restraint, while Zhang Chengruixue seemed determined to beat them to death.

Why?

As I was pondering, Lin Han was already walking towards us.

Remembering Lin Han's words that she wanted to solve this herself, I suddenly felt a pang of panic and asked Fatty, "Brother Fatty, can they see us from outside the glass?"

"No."

"Then why is Lin Han coming over?"

"Sister knows this car!"
