Chapter 689: Chapter 689: You’re Different?
But Victor Hawthorne didn’t expect his father’s answer: "I can tell your uncle is emitting an aura that spells trouble for anyone who dares interrupt their conversation! I don’t want any nasty outcomes; I can’t go up there."
Victor’s mouth twitched: "So I deserve a nasty outcome?"
Mr. Hawthorne awkwardly smiled.
Kids become harder to fool as they grow up!
Fortunately, Mrs. Hawthorne rushed to support him: "You’re different, you’re the younger generation. No matter how upset your uncle gets, he shouldn’t lose his temper with a kid like you."
But obviously, Victor wasn’t convinced and merely sneered coldly.
Seeing the situation, Mr. and Mrs. Hawthorne realized that soft tactics wouldn’t work and decided to take a harder approach.
So Mr. Hawthorne ruthlessly pushed Victor towards Kyle Keaton.
Mrs. Hawthorne whispered behind him: "Go call your uncle over for the ribbon-cutting, or we’ll act as if we don’t have you as a son. Start practicing the trumpet tonight."
After doing this, Mrs. Hawthorne still asked Mr. Hawthorne worriedly: "Are we being too cruel to Victor?"
Mr. Hawthorne shook his head helplessly: "Even if it’s cruel, we have no choice."
On one side was The God of Wealth who wanted to chat, and on the other, the impatient Vice President.
The Hawthorne Family couldn’t afford to offend either side if they wanted to stay in this country.
So they could only push Victor out, hoping that Kyle might show them some leniency on account of family and younger generation ties.
Victor found himself bewildered as he was pushed in front of Kyle Keaton and July Quinn.
At that moment, he felt his uncle’s gaze on him was colder than the sleet of November and December.
But what could he do?
Of course, he could only brace himself and speak: "Uncle, my parents invite you to the ribbon-cutting ceremony."
Stealing a glance back at his parents, he saw them gesturing at their watches, and Victor could only add:
"The auspicious time is nearly here."
As expected, Kyle’s expression darkened further, as if venting his anger by wanting to kill.
Feeling his life was in danger, Victor once again doubted if he was their biological son.
If he were, which parents could bear to let their child face a life-or-death situation alone?
Kyle remained silent, continuing to scrutinize Victor coldly.
Victor anxiously glanced back at his parents, seeking their help.
But sadly, they were also like bodhisattvas wading across the river, unable to save themselves, so upon sensing Victor’s plea, they turned their backs to him.
Victor realized seeking help from them was futile, so he turned to July Quinn.
The truth proved that only Julian was reliable in critical moments.
Sure enough, catching his desperate look, July Quinn suddenly gave Kyle a cold glare.
"Let’s talk after attending that ribbon-cutting thing; I still have to go with my friend to check out the hotel’s ambiance."
Although Victor wasn’t sure what Kyle wanted to discuss with July, the moment she finished speaking, he noticed Kyle’s face visibly change from gloom to brightness.
"Alright then, it’s settled. I’ll come find you after it’s over."
As he said this, Kyle also raised his hand, gently tapping the top of July’s head and tugging at her soft, adorable ponytail.
"Why are you touching my hair? Mess it up, and I’ll be upset with you."
Though July didn’t understand why Kyle was suddenly tugging at her ponytail, she just felt inexplicably ashamed.
"Nothing, just wanted to say it looks great on you."
After saying this, Kyle followed Victor and left.
