Chapter 189 Then I Was Wrong
Hearing Su Jingxi’s words, Song Ni felt no ripple in her heart. Although she didn’t know who Su Jingxi liked, she had seen him on the phone, smiling like an idiot. She figured that the film emperor, urged by his fans to find a partner, had long since done what his fans wanted him to do. What she couldn’t understand was why, given Su Jingxi’s current status, announcing a relationship wouldn’t significantly impact him.
“You’re willing, but I’m not.” With Tan Zheng’s personality, even wearing similar clothes to Su Jingxi while filming could make him jealous. If there was a scandal with Su Jingxi, he might fly back from America immediately.
Su Jingxi: ......
“What are your plans next?” Song Ni handed a tissue to Chi Xia, who hadn’t recovered yet.
“No plans. I’ll let Director Jiang handle it.”
“That’s it?”
“What else? The video was filmed, and the evidence is sufficient. Are you afraid she’ll renege?”
“Don’t you want to find out if someone is behind this?”
At these words, Song Ni looked up and seriously at Su Jingxi. “I’m the type to hold grudges.” That video was enough for Bai Jin Yun to go to the police station, and fortunately, Qin Dang had a close junior friend there. As for whether someone was behind it, that wasn’t her concern. She just needed to wait for the outcome.
Seeing Song Ni’s demeanor, Su Jingxi felt he was worrying unnecessarily. How could someone raised by the Song family let themselves be taken advantage of?
Suddenly, Su Jingxi remembered that arrogant man. “Does your husband agree with you doing this?” Based on his observations, Tan Zheng’s affection for Song Ni was such that he wouldn’t allow Song Ni to do this, not even for acting.
“Oh, he doesn’t know.” But as soon as she finished speaking, Song Ni’s phone rang, and it was Tan Zheng.
Song Ni: ......
Su Jingxi raised an eyebrow at the sight. “Oh, you really don’t know?”
The car hadn’t driven off yet when Song Ni opened the door and gave him a look.
Su Jingxi: ......
As a prominent film emperor, why was he being slighted by a rookie actress and even asked to get out of the car?
As soon as Su Jingxi got out, Song Ni immediately answered the phone. The man’s expression wasn’t pleasant. Song Ni wanted to ask something, but she suddenly remembered the bodyguards he’d assigned to her and couldn’t bring herself to speak. She asked Chi Xia to hold her phone steady while she turned around in front of the camera. Fortunately, the RV was spacious enough for her to do so.
“See, I’m fine, and An An is okay.” Tan Zheng, however, still had a stern face and said nothing.
Song Ni sighed and took the phone. “You’re frowning. Do you wish I had actually gotten into trouble?”
As soon as she spoke, Song Ni was glared at by Tan Zheng. She immediately fell silent, raising her hand and touching her nose with a hint of guilt.
“Why did you put yourself at risk?” Tan Zheng’s voice was tense, filled with anger, but because of the distance, he was trying to suppress it.
Song Ni hadn’t expected Tan Zheng to know so quickly. She didn’t know if Zhou Jin or her brother had leaked the information.
“You don’t trust me?” It was the same question. Back when she was with those brash kids from the opposing party at the club and they were playing recklessly, Song Ni had asked the same question.
A trace of helplessness flashed across Tan Zheng’s eyes, quickly disappearing. He maintained his stern expression. “It’s not about whether I trust you. It’s that you shouldn’t take your own safety lightly.”
Song Ni had anticipated Tan Zheng’s reaction. In the past, she might have argued back, but now she couldn’t. She knew Tan Zheng wasn’t doubting her, but rather worrying about her.
“Nini, you can’t control the wire work alone,” Tan Zheng paused. He recalled Song Ni’s scene while on the wires – her slender waist being cinched, suspended in mid-air, performing complex martial arts moves. Even a slight error could cause injury.
“What would I do if you really fell? Hmm?”
Song Ni pursed her lips. She didn’t want to tell Tan Zheng that she was worried about precisely this situation. While she was supremely confident in her ability to avoid injury, even absolute confidence couldn’t fully reassure someone who loved her. Because of love, there was worry.
So… Song Ni softened her tone, her lips slightly pursed, her peach blossom eyes wide and moist, looking pitiful and innocent. “Then I was wrong.”
This soft, pleading admission left Tan Zheng at a loss for how to scold her. After a moment of silence, he spoke, “Are you really not hurt?”
Song Ni immediately beamed. “Not at all. But, I still need to go to the hospital for a scene.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me from the start?”
Song Ni blinked, feigning innocence. “If I told you, I wouldn’t be able to continue, would I?”
Tan Zheng had nowhere to direct his anger. “You’re just taking advantage of the fact that I’m in America, aren’t you?”
Song Ni nodded. “Yeah. What can you do about it?”
Tan Zheng: ...... This is my wife. I can’t be angry. I can’t be angry.
“If you want to punish me, then hurry back.”
As soon as Song Ni said this, Tan Zheng fell silent. Before he could speak, Song Ni added, “But it won’t do any good for you to come back. I’m going to England after I finish filming.”
The man frowned. “England?”
“Yes, I’m going to watch a show with my sister-in-law and will be staying there for a while.”
“When will you be back?”
“Probably before the Lunar New Year.”
This time, Tan Zheng fell silent for an even longer period. It meant they wouldn’t see each other for another month. He rubbed his temples. “Nini, I…”
“You’re busy. I understand.” But he didn’t want her to understand at all. His little girl should be spoiled, coddled, and doted on. She should throw little tantrums, making him rush home to accompany her.
“Don’t you want to ask me what I’m actually doing here?”
Song Ni’s eyes flickered, but only for a moment before she wrinkled her brows in distaste. “I don’t want to hear about managing a group. My dad asked me before if I wanted to work in the family company, and I refused. My brother is so busy, and so are you. Why would I go looking for trouble?”
Tan Zheng squeezed his left wrist. Listening to Song Ni continue to make excuses for him, he felt a complex mix of emotions. His little girl was too smart, and too understanding.
“Baby.”
“Hmm?”
“I’ll come back and watch the snow with you.”
Song Ni’s eyes curved. “Okay. Can you build a snowman? My brother used to build one for me when I was little. But after he got his wife, he only built one for her.”
The man frowned. “Not very well.”
Song Ni: ......
“But it’s a simple thing.”
“I don’t want anything ugly.”
Tan Zheng snorted. “Nothing I make is ugly.”
Song Ni was about to call him shameless when the entire two-story vehicle flashed in her mind. Tan Zheng did seem to have the right to say that.
