"Nonsense, I... you, you're the one who walks around the house without a shirt on, and you have the nerve to say that."
Liu Yilin tried desperately to explain, coming up with a terrible excuse that barely covered it, but in her heart, she was cursing this guy.
"Faking it, still faking it. Don't think I don't know your intentions. You're still pretending with me, and I want to see how long you can keep it up."
"Did I?"
Ning Beichen touched his head. He remembered being properly dressed when he was at her place, though he couldn't recall if he had ever done such a thing. He certainly didn't associate her with the girls from the bar that night.
"Alright, Boss, I'll be careful from now on."
Ning Beichen didn't remember, so he appeared somewhat guilty.
"Ning Beichen, have the assassins entered yet?"
Seeing that she had gotten past the issue, Liu Yilin didn't want to dwell on it any longer and quickly changed the subject.
"Not yet. It's not time to make a move. He's observing the surroundings, looking for entry and exit routes, and scouting how many guards there are. He'll likely make a move tonight."
Ning Beichen told her.
"Then are we just going to wait here for him?"
Liu Yilin felt a bit anxious when she heard it would take so long.
"Not exactly. We just came up to enjoy the scenery and get some fresh air. We'll leave the assassin for those four to handle. If all four of them can't handle one assassin, then I suggest, Boss, you should just let them go, so they don't get in the way."
Ning Beichen said to her.
"Boss, you just need to relax. You've been too tense these past few days. Let's wait for the show tonight."
Ning Beichen lay down lazily on the rooftop. He had genuinely just suggested Liu Yilin come up for some fresh air, not for any ulterior motive.
"Boss, you try it too. It's very beneficial for relaxing your body and mind. Lying on the ground, looking at the blue sky, makes one feel no pressure at all."
Liu Yilin was a bit reserved at first, being a girl, but seeing Ning Beichen's blissful expression, she hesitantly tried it.
While it wasn't as magical as Ning Beichen described, lying on the ground and looking at the sky did make her feel less bothered.
"Boss, you really don't need to worry about the funding issues. I have a way to help you solve it."
Ning Beichen turned his face to Liu Yilin and said.
"What way could you possibly have? You don't have any money. Just take care of yourself."
Liu Yilin said with her eyes closed.
"Boss, it's true, I'm not lying to you. Do you remember Countess Annie from Las Vegas last time? She's willing to lend you money."
Ning Beichen was, of course, lying. In reality, he was the one lending her the money; Annie was just an excuse he used to fool Liu Yilin.
"Really? How much can she lend me? I need a significant sum."
As soon as Liu Yilin heard Annie's name, she immediately got up from the ground and asked excitedly.
"You can have as much as you want. She's not short of money."
Ning Beichen said generously.
"That's great! If she's willing to lend me the money, I'll be able to get through this difficult time."
Liu Yilin was so excited she didn't know what to say.
"Boss, don't worry, I've already spoken to her. She said it's no problem. Just tell me how much you need."
Ning Beichen told her.
"Thank you, Ning Beichen."
Overcome with emotion, Liu Yilin suddenly threw herself into Ning Beichen's arms, shouting and cheering.
However, she soon realized something was amiss and quickly let go of him, her face flushed. Yet, her excitement was still evident.
"Boss, you don't have to worry about that anymore, do you?"
Ning Beichen coughed, pretending nothing had happened, to avoid awkwardness.
With the funding issue resolved, Liu Yilin's mood improved greatly. She even neglected her work for the day, simply lying on the rooftop with Ning Beichen, gazing at the blue sky and white clouds.
At that moment, assassins, responsibilities, all were cast aside. She just wanted to quietly enjoy this peaceful, worry-free moment.
They lay on the rooftop for two hours like this, until it was close to evening, and they came down from the rooftop.
Ning Beichen glanced at the four men. They were still chatting and joking in their original positions, seemingly oblivious to the assassin outside.
Ning Beichen shook his head, too lazy to bother with them, and returned to his room to make some preparations.
Soon, night fell. The four men maintained their previous division of labor: some monitored the outside, some stayed inside, and the remaining two took turns resting.
However, at this moment, Ning Beichen and Liu Yilin appeared on the rooftop. They were crouched in a concealed position, observing the outside through the gaps in the railing.
"Ning Beichen, when do you think the assassin will make a move?"
Liu Yilin asked sleepily.
"Soon. If I were the assassin, I'd choose this moment to strike."
Ning Beichen whispered.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Ning Beichen pointed to a dark area and said to Liu Yilin, "Boss, the assassin is here."
Liu Yilin immediately looked in the direction Ning Beichen pointed. Indeed, she saw a dark figure. If Ning Beichen hadn't pointed it out, she wouldn't have noticed it was a person.
The assassin stealthily infiltrated the courtyard like a cat, and the four men remained completely unaware.
Meanwhile, Da Sheng, who was on night duty, had no idea the assassin had already sneaked in and was humming a tune while watching the surveillance footage.
After entering, the assassin moved as if invisible, evading surveillance all the way and successfully entering the house.
Little did he know that on the rooftop, two spectators were intently watching his performance.
Upon entering the house, the assassin made his way to the second floor. It was then that Meng Mei, on the second floor, heard a noise and carelessly came out to speak.
"President Liu Yilin, is that you?"
However, before she could receive a reply from Liu Yilin, she saw a shadow. Her vision went black, and Meng Mei was knocked unconscious by the assassin.
The assassin dragged Meng Mei into a room, then carefully selected Liu Yilin's room and crept inside.
He soon reached the bedroom. However, the bedroom was empty, which immediately caused the assassin to frown.
This was not good. He had observed all day and was certain Liu Yilin hadn't left. He had even seen her figure on the balcony from outside.
"Could she have gone to the bathroom?"
The assassin quietly approached the bathroom door, pressed his body against the wall, and then reached out a hand to turn the doorknob.
