"Who knows? You know what you've done in your heart, do you expect me to say it out loud?"
Liu Yilin gave Ning Beichen a meaningful glance before happily returning to sleep.
It was Ning Beichen, however, who was now unable to sleep. His mind was racing, wondering what the woman had meant with her insinuating tone.
"Could she have discovered my identity?"
"Impossible. I've never revealed my identity. With her abilities, there's no way she could have found out about me."
Ning Beichen pondered endlessly until late into the night, finally falling asleep exhausted.
Although it wasn't the first time they had been in the same space, Liu Yilin always locked her door and braced it with something from the inside when she slept, as if fearing that Ning Beichen would unleash his beastly nature and break in.
However, this had never happened, and she was merely frightening herself.
Moreover, Ning Beichen had no idea that the woman he had drunkenly spent the night with was her.
Who would have thought that Liu Yilin had worn a wig that night, transforming her long hair into short blonde locks? She had also worn purple contact lenses. That night, she had completely let go, and was a completely different person from who she was now. Even with all of Ning Beichen's skills, he would never have guessed that woman was her.
By the time dawn broke, Ning Beichen had dark circles under his eyes, and Liu Yilin was not much better. It was clear that neither of them had slept well.
However, they did not go out today because it had started to rain softly outside.
Just then, the beautiful Countess mysteriously came to find Ning Beichen.
"The Thousand-Faced Divine Thief has appeared."
The beautiful Countess brought him good news.
"Are you sure it's him?"
Ning Beichen's eyes lit up.
"It's confirmed. Tonight at..."
The beautiful Countess whispered an address into Ning Beichen's ear, her breath warm against his skin.
"Good, well done."
Ning Beichen was very pleased with her.
"Do you need my manpower?"
Seeing Ning Beichen happy made the beautiful Countess beam.
"No need, it's not a war. But your people should help me seal off Las Vegas. I don't want to see the Thousand-Faced Divine Thief making a comeback."
Ning Beichen snorted coldly.
"No problem, I guarantee not even a bird can leave Las Vegas."
The beautiful Countess agreed.
"You... aren't you Annie?"
Liu Yilin's jaw dropped in surprise as she looked at the blonde beauty who was acting so familiar with Ning Beichen.
"Hi, we meet again."
Annie greeted her.
"You... you two know each other?"
Liu Yilin felt her brain struggling to keep up. Even with an IQ of 230, she couldn't figure this out.
"We met when I was working here before."
Ning Beichen answered naturally and instinctively, likely too lazy to come up with a new excuse.
Annie shot Ning Beichen a peculiar glance and echoed his words, "Yes, we met when we were working before."
Liu Yilin watched Annie's familiar demeanor towards Ning Beichen, her natural tendency to lean against him. For some reason, this made her very uncomfortable. Her initial good impression of Annie instantly turned to dislike.
"Oh, Ning Beichen, you're quite well-connected for a mere bodyguard."
There was a distinct sour note of jealousy in Liu Yilin's voice.
Her current state of mind was akin to disliking something but feeling uncomfortable when that very thing, which she had neglected, was suddenly held in high regard by someone else, as if something belonging to her had been stolen.
"Mere bodyguard?"
Annie was startled by Liu Yilin's words. He was a bodyguard? If he was a bodyguard, then there were no bodyguards in the world. He was a demon king, and the most terrifying kind, the kind that would make Satan himself cower.
However, she dared not voice this, as she had no idea what Liu Yilin's relationship with Ning Beichen was.
"Heh, I'm quite fond of making friends. With more friends, one can travel far."
Ning Beichen explained with a chuckle.
Annie suppressed her laughter, trying not to look at him, for fear she would burst out laughing.
"Alright, Boss, the Thousand-Faced Divine Thief has appeared. I'll go catch him tonight. You stay in the hotel and don't wander around."
Ning Beichen instructed her.
"I'm going too."
Liu Yilin immediately said.
"No."
Ning Beichen flatly refused. It was a dangerous situation; how could he take her there?
"Why? He stole my belongings, and I'm going to get them back."
Liu Yilin put on a righteous act.
Her innocent demeanor left Ning Beichen speechless. It was as if a kindergartner demanding back candy they had lost.
Even Ning Beichen didn't know how many parties would appear tonight. These were all major forces from around the world, not kindergarteners.
These were all beings that no one dared to offend. Ning Beichen himself was prepared for a bloody battle tonight, so how could he possibly bring Liu Yilin?
"Boss, it's not that simple. Tonight will be very dangerous. Listen to me and stay in the hotel waiting for my return. I promise you, if the item is indeed with the Thousand-Faced Divine Thief, I will bring the data back to you."
Ning Beichen promised her.
Before Liu Yilin could agree or refuse, Ning Beichen said to her seriously, "Boss, before we came, you promised you would listen to my every word. You won't go back on your word, will you?"
"Then... alright, Ning Beichen, be careful. The files are important, but your safety is more important. If you can't get them... then forget it. The most important thing is that you return safely."
Liu Yilin finally said something that warmed Ning Beichen's heart.
"I understand, Boss. I'll be careful."
Ning Beichen nodded.
Although the Thousand-Faced Divine Thief would only appear at night, Ning Beichen had to start preparing now. To avoid worrying Liu Yilin, Ning Beichen instructed the beautiful Countess Annie to stay and keep her company.
As soon as Ning Beichen left, the two women became antagonistic, looking at each other with sharp, sarcastic remarks.
"Miss Annie, didn't you say you didn't know Ning Beichen? I think you know him quite well, and your relationship is more than casual, isn't it?"
Liu Yilin said with a hint of acidity.
"Heh, Miss Yilin, isn't Ning Beichen your bodyguard? What's my relationship with him to you, an employer, to be so concerned? I know Beichen, and I've known him for a long time. So what?"
Annie retorted sharply.
