Chapter 24 Cornered on the Road

Ning Beichen was merely following his master’s orders to protect Liu Yilin alone. As for the rest of the Liu family, they had nothing to do with him.

An hour later, Liu Yilin, finally satisfied with her shopping spree, returned to the car with Ning Beichen carrying numerous bags.

After a while in the car, Liu Yilin seemed to finally remember to inquire about Ning Beichen’s situation.

“By the way, Ning Beichen, did my grandfather give you any trouble at home earlier?”

“No, the old man is very kind and very concerned about you. It’s obvious he dotes on you.”

Ning Beichen replied verbally, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

Her grandfather hadn’t just not given him trouble; he had actively made things difficult for him, even sending his confidantes to deal with him.

It was just that Ning Beichen was stronger and had a harder fist. If his abilities were weaker, he would probably be lying in a gutter feeding rats or already sunk in the river for the fish.

“By the way, Boss, have you offended anyone recently?”

Seeing her in a good mood, Ning Beichen began to probe her intentionally or unintentionally.

He was utterly weary of this passive form of protection.

He just wanted to quickly find out who was behind the machinations against Liu Yilin, then beat them into a pulp and send them back to the womb for reincarnation, for everyone’s benefit.

“No, you know I’ve always been a homebody. How could I offend anyone?”

Liu Yilin replied, puzzled, not understanding why Ning Beichen was asking her this.

“Then, are there any rival companies? Ones that look unfavorably upon yours, or perhaps projects with serious conflicts with rival companies?”

Ning Beichen continued to ask.

“Our company focuses on high-tech chip development. Domestically, we are practically unrivaled. I can even proudly say our company is second to none globally.”

Liu Yilin said proudly.

“Then, are there any companies abroad with whom your company has the most serious conflicts?”

Only then did Ning Beichen realize that this woman’s company was far from simple.

“Oh, there are plenty. I can confidently say that all companies in the world similar to ours are in competition with us, including those in major world powers.”

Liu Yilin said with great pride.

“Then it seems the problem lies here. By the way, has your company recently developed any particularly sensitive projects? I mean, the kind that would make others envious and jealous.”

Ning Beichen felt he had found the crux of the problem, but it seemed to be a complex issue, so complex that it gave him a headache.

“What are you trying to do? This is a secret of our company, I can’t tell you.”

Liu Yilin instantly became vigilant, staring intently at Ning Beichen with the look one gives to a bad guy.

“Alright, I won’t ask anymore.”

Ning Beichen was speechless, amused and exasperated. This woman was vigilant towards the wrong people and not towards the ones she should be.

Not long after, Ning Beichen drove onto a main road. But at that moment, he suddenly noticed three vans ahead of him. Through the rearview mirror, he also saw several cars behind him with suspicious trajectories.

Those cars were forming a pincer formation, squeezing out all the surrounding vehicles, leaving only their car in the middle.

Ning Beichen’s brow twitched. He immediately sensed something was wrong and turned to Liu Yilin. “Boss, buckle up and hold onto the handle on the roof. I estimate things will get pretty exciting.”

“What’s happening? Ah!!! Ning Beichen, what are you doing?”

Liu Yilin found the car accelerating suddenly. Even from inside the car, she could hear the roar of the engine outside.

Ning Beichen had no time to explain. The two cars on his left and right were already closing in. Fortunately, Ning Beichen was driving a sports car today; his usual commercial van wouldn’t have been able to evade them with speed.

With encirclement from all sides, Ning Beichen scanned his surroundings and quickly found an opening. He floored the accelerator, and the car shot forward at a thirty-degree angle.

However, a large truck was directly in front of them. Amidst Liu Yilin’s terrified screams, she saw Ning Beichen’s car drive under the large truck.

“Ning Beichen! What exactly are you trying to do?”

Liu Yilin was beside herself with fear, trembling uncontrollably. She had never felt so close to death before.

Ning Beichen had no time to answer. He maneuvered the car out from under the truck, evading the pursuit of the two cars behind them, and weaved through the traffic like a nimble fish.

But soon, Ning Beichen noticed several new sports cars appearing behind him.

These sports cars were not inferior to the vehicle he was driving, and they quickly caught up, tailgating him closely. They were deliberately controlling their direction of travel, forcing Ning Beichen’s car in another direction.

At this point, Liu Yilin also realized something was amiss and hurriedly asked.

“Ning Beichen, what are they trying to do?”

“Do you even need to ask? They’re definitely here to capture you.”

Ning Beichen replied while driving.

“Capture me? Why would they capture me?”

Liu Yilin’s ears were ringing, and she shouted in disbelief.

“How would I know why they want to capture you?”

Ning Beichen replied impatiently as he drove.

At this moment, the car suddenly vibrated violently. He saw a car smash directly into them from the right, pushing his car sideways for several meters, causing Liu Yilin to scream inside.

Ning Beichen gritted his teeth and slammed the accelerator to the floor. His car, still sideways, rammed into the other vehicle.

CRUNCH.

The opposing car was knocked aside by Ning Beichen’s car. Its wheel then angled over his car’s hood, followed by a sudden brake from Ning Beichen.

The cars pursuing from behind crashed headlong into his rear, emitting a loud bang.

The rear hood of the Bugatti Veyron flew off. However, the pursuer was stunned by the impact.

Ning Beichen dared not linger to play with them any longer. He drove the damaged limited edition Bugatti Veyron, its shattered spoiler trailing behind, off the main road and turned into a small alley.

It was a chaotic scene. The alley was not wide. Several trash cans were knocked over by Ning Beichen’s car as it careened down a park's sloping path.
