"Yan Xi, the matter I need to discuss with you is related to Fu Yan Ting. If you truly don't want to know, then forget it. Pretend I never came."
Shi Kai Nan knew exactly how much Yan Xi cared about Fu Yan Ting.
Regardless of Yan Xi's current feelings for Fu Yan Ting, as long as Fu Yan Ting was mentioned, Yan Xi would agree to meet Shi Kai Nan for a talk. Shi Kai Nan was well aware of this.
"Wait for me, I'll go change."
Yan Xi said.
Shi Kai Nan's lips curved upwards. He knew Yan Xi had conceded and agreed to talk.
Arriving at the coffee shop, Yan Xi had intended to ask the waiter for a glass of plain water. But then she remembered the baby she had lost and that she no longer needed to be so careful for the child's sake. She ordered a cup of coffee.
The coffee was bitter, but her heart was even more so.
Yan Xi ordered a black coffee, without milk or sugar. It seemed she wanted to force herself to drink the bitter coffee as a form of punishment.
"Xi Xi, why do you have to make things so difficult for yourself? Few people can get used to black coffee. If it's too bitter, just add some sugar."
Yan Xi gave a bitter smile, not responding to Shi Kai Nan.
Suddenly, Shi Kai Nan's phone rang. He glanced at Yan Xi and then moved to a corner to take the call.
After Shi Kai Nan left, Fu Yan Ting suddenly appeared before Yan Xi. Seeing Fu Yan Ting, Yan Xi thought of her precious child. All her grievances and heartaches transformed into anger, and her eyes glared at Fu Yan Ting with hostility.
Fu Yan Ting, however, seemed unbothered. He looked at Yan Xi and began his act of self-pity, saying, "Xi Xi, I was in the hospital for three days in critical condition. I almost didn't make it off the operating table."
Hearing Fu Yan Ting's words, Yan Xi's heart tightened. She wanted to know if Fu Yan Ting's condition had improved. But then, she thought of Fu Yan Ting's actions towards her, and all the words she had prepared were swallowed back.
Fu Yan Ting knew Yan Xi was angry, though he didn't know why. Yet, he didn't get angry and instead tried to appease her. "Xi Xi, Shi Wen Wen and I have cleared things up. She won't be a problem between us anymore."
Fu Yan Ting assumed Yan Xi's anger was due to Shi Wen Wen. Girls, he thought, were generally petty and prone to jealousy.
"Fu Yan Ting, whatever happens between you and Shi Wen Wen has nothing to do with me. We are over."
Yan Xi said indifferently, not even sparing him a glance.
Fu Yan Ting's face turned extremely grim. He had humbled himself to come find Yan Xi, and yet she was treating him so cruelly, refusing to see him, while she could go out for coffee with Shi Kai Nan. Fu Yan Ting had been injured for Yan Xi and stayed in the hospital for several days. Although it wasn't as exaggerated as he claimed, he had indeed been hurt. And Yan Xi, could be so indifferent to him. Fu Yan Ting felt it wasn't worth it for him.
"Yan Xi, are you treating me like this, refusing to see me, because of him?"
Yan Xi didn't immediately realize who "him" referred to. But soon, she understood. He meant Shi Kai Nan. Fu Yan Ting pressed on, his eyes fixed on her, and asked word by word, "Yan Xi, you won't come home with me. Is it because you've fallen for Shi Kai Nan?"
Fallen for Shi Kai Nan. Yan Xi couldn't believe that in Fu Yan Ting's mind, she was such a fickle woman. Yan Xi's anger flared up, and she retorted coldly, "What if I have? At least, he wouldn't be as cruel as you, to force the termination of our own child."
"What did you say?"
Fu Yan Ting froze, his body stiffening. The situation had been critical. For Yan Xi's safety, he had to make that decision. But he had already spoken to the doctor, instructing them not to tell Yan Xi. How did she find out?
"Fu Yan Ting, why aren't you speaking? Have you run out of words?"
How Yan Xi wished Fu Yan Ting would explain to her that he hadn't done it, that her child was still alive. But it was all just wishful thinking. As Fu Yan Ting's silence grew longer, Yan Xi's heart grew colder.
"From the beginning, we were a mistake. Fu Yan Ting, let's part ways amicably now and put an end to this mistake, can we?"
"No. Since you married me, you are not allowed to leave my side without my permission."
Fu Yan Ting had intended to explain things properly, but Yan Xi wouldn't listen. Helpless, Fu Yan Ting grabbed Yan Xi and left the coffee shop. His movements were rough, pulling at his wound. Blood began to seep out, instantly staining the white gauze red. But Fu Yan Ting didn't care. He was consumed by rage, his ferocity making him intimidating.
Yan Xi was taken back to the villa and locked in a room. With guards posted outside, it was nearly impossible for Yan Xi to even leave her room.
"Fu Yan Ting, let me out."
"Fu Yan Ting, you're only making me hate you more."
Yan Xi shouted in the room, but no matter how loudly she called, Fu Yan Ting acted as if he couldn't hear. Fu Yan Ting knew that Shi Kai Nan asking Yan Xi for coffee wouldn't be simple. He couldn't stand by and watch Yan Xi fall into danger. Even if Yan Xi hated him, he accepted it. He wouldn't let Shi Kai Nan have another chance to get close to Yan Xi, use her, scheme against her, or hurt her.
Yan Xi continued to shout in the room for a long time until she was exhausted. No one responded from outside, and only then did she stop.
Zhang Ma didn't know what had happened between Yan Xi and Fu Yan Ting. Their relationship seemed so good not too long ago. How had it deteriorated so quickly? Zhang Ma approached Fu Yan Ting with a medical kit and said softly, "Sir, you're injured. Please clean your wound first."
