"Son-in-law, why are you here so suddenly? Where is Xixi?" Yan Jiapeng knew how much Yan Xi cared about Yan Yi.
Seeing Fu Yanting arrive, his gaze shifted to the door, searching for Yan Xi's shadow. He thought Yan Xi had come with Fu Yanting.
Fu Yanting looked at Yan Jiapeng indifferently and did not respond. Yan Jiapeng, despite being met with a cold shoulder, felt no displeasure; he dared not anger Fu Yanting.
Yan Yi lay on the hospital bed, his face pale and looking very weak. His gaze met Fu Yanting's. From Yan Jiapeng's earlier greeting to Fu Yanting, he knew that the man before him was the vegetative state patient his sister had married. Yan Yi wanted to protect Yan Xi. He wanted to contend with Fu Yanting. However, Yan Yi lacked the courage. Fu Yanting's aura was too powerful, making Yan Yi afraid to challenge him. Yan Yi secretly regretted not being stronger, not being able to protect his sister, and causing her to marry this man to save him. This man clearly was not to be trifled with. His sister would surely suffer if she was with him. Yan Yi felt immense anger and self-reproach; if not for him, his sister wouldn't have sacrificed so much. Yan Yi's emotions surged, worsening his condition, and he began to cough violently again.
Yan Jiapeng cast a cold glance at Yan Yi, indifferent to his life or death. He looked up at Fu Yanting and said, "Good son-in-law, please don't mind him. My son gets like this when he's agitated. He's not well, I'm used to it. Actually, I have something to discuss with you. Perhaps we could talk outside?"
Hearing Yan Jiapeng's words, Yan Yi grew even more enraged. But now, he couldn't speak. He clenched his fists tightly. Yan Jiapeng might not care about him, the sickly one, but he shouldn't use his sister and force her to do something she didn't want to do.
Fu Yanting ignored Yan Jiapeng, looked at Yan Yi, and said indifferently, "I am married to your sister. From now on, your affairs are my affairs. If anyone dares to trouble you, kidnap you, or treat you badly, come directly to me."
Yan Yi looked up at Fu Yanting in shock, finding it hard to believe these words came from Fu Yanting. "From now on, you only need to listen to your sister. You can ignore everyone else." Yan Yi had not expected the aloof deity of the Fu family to be so approachable, speaking so much to him. Judging by his tone, he didn't seem so bad, nor was he so harsh to his sister. In truth, Yan Yi didn't need Fu Yanting to back him. His only wish was for his sister to be happy.
"Can I speak with you alone for a moment?" Yan Yi looked at Fu Yanting, his voice weak and with a hint of pleading. Fu Yanting nodded, then glanced at Yan Jiapeng. Yan Jiapeng naturally understood Fu Yanting's meaning and glared at Yan Yi. Useless thing, didn't he see they were waiting to talk to Fu Yanting? Yan Yi's interruption had blocked all his prepared words. Although displeased, Yan Jiapeng dared not oppose Fu Yanting and could only paste on a smile, saying, "Good son-in-law, I'll wait for you outside the ward."
Fu Yanting didn't even spare Yan Jiapeng a glance. Yet Yan Jiapeng was persistent. Yan Jiapeng paced anxiously outside the ward. He wondered what Yan Yi would say to Fu Yanting. That ungrateful wretch, just like Yan Xi. If he ruined his plan, Yan Jiapeng would not let him off.
Shortly after, Fu Yanting emerged from the ward with a grave expression. Seeing Fu Yanting's troubled look, Yan Jiapeng speculated what Yan Yi could have said to make Fu Yanting so angry. Yan Jiapeng quickly stepped forward, his face a mask of forced smiles, fawning, "Son-in-law, my son is still too young and speaks without thinking. If he offended you in any way, please forgive him."
After Yan Jiapeng finished speaking, Fu Yanting’s cold gaze fixed on him, and he said indifferently, "Don't try to get close. I don't know you." Yan Jiapeng dared not cross Fu Yanting and could only try to smooth things over with a joking demeanor.
Having lived in the Fu family for so many years, Fu Yanting had seen all sorts of people. Witnessing Yan Jiapeng's fawning, Fu Yanting knew his intentions without even thinking. Originally, Fu Yanting could have ignored Yan Jiapeng, but Yan Jiapeng had repeatedly troubled and threatened Yan Xi. As Yan Xi's husband, it felt wrong not to do something for her. Moreover, Fu Yanting had not yet settled the score with Yan Jiapeng for using Yan Xi and drugging her last time. Today, he had the time, so he would settle accounts with Yan Jiapeng properly.
Yan Jiapeng truly never expected Fu Yanting to be so cold and ruthless. Yan Jiapeng felt displeased but dared not show it in front of Fu Yanting. Fu Yanting stood there like an emperor dictating the fate of men. Yan Jiapeng stood beside him, not daring to breathe.
Fu Yanting lit a cigarette and walked to the window to smoke. After finishing the cigarette, he glanced at his watch. He calculated that it should be about time.
Lawyer Meng Kai walked hurriedly towards Fu Yanting with a document. Meng Kai whispered a few words into Fu Yanting's ear. Fu Yanting nodded slightly, briefly scanned the document, then looked up to meet Yan Jiapeng's gaze. Yan Jiapeng asked with a smile, "Mr. Fu, what are your orders?"
"I have a document here. As long as you sign it, your Yan family will not go bankrupt." Yan Jiapeng's intuition told him it wouldn't be a good document, but he dared not refuse it. He took it and opened it to find a document forcing him to sever all familial ties with Yan Xi and Yan Yi. Yan Jiapeng's face changed dramatically, and he explained, "Mr. Fu, I only have one son, Yan Yi. The Yan Shi Group is waiting for Yan Yi to inherit it in the future. Forcing me to disown him is asking too much."
"So, you are unwilling to sign?" Fu Yanting did not get angry, merely asking indifferently. Yan Jiapeng shivered involuntarily. Fu Yanting's tone was normal, and his expression showed no anger. Yet, for some reason, Yan Jiapeng was terrified. Yan Jiapeng swallowed and said in a negotiating tone, "Mr. Fu, it's not that I'm unwilling, but... this is asking too much. Xixi and Yan Yi are both my children. The palm and the back of my hand are equally important. Now you're asking me to sever ties with them; this puts me in a difficult position." Fu Yanting sneered. Yan Jiapeng had quite a lot of eloquent excuses.
