He Xin coldly observed Qiao Wei. The hint of disdain in his eyes flashed and disappeared.
Qiao Wei, lost in her own world, failed to notice the look of disdain in He Xin's eyes.
Qiao Wei looked at He Xin, her face filled with emotion, and said, "Husband, I was wrong. I truly know I was wrong. Please forgive me this time. I'll never threaten to break up with you again. Let's live our lives well, okay?"
He Xin ignored Qiao Wei, but Qiao Wei was moved by her own sincerity. She loved He Xin, and her love had been reciprocated. For Qiao Wei, this was the best outcome.
After work, He Xin took Qiao Wei with him and they went to a hotel under the He family's ownership to rest.
Qiao Wei looked at He Xin with a bashful expression.
She was smart. Even though He Xin said nothing, Qiao Wei knew very well why He Xin was taking her to a hotel room.
Qiao Wei gazed at He Xin's retreating back with deep affection.
Once they reached the room, He Xin handed Qiao Wei a glass of water.
Qiao Wei didn't usually like drinking water, but since He Xin had poured it, she found the water delicious.
She drank it all in one gulp.
Just a few seconds after finishing the water, Qiao Wei felt a wave of dizziness. He Xin said softly, "You've been too tired lately. Go to bed and get some rest."
Qiao Wei didn't think much of it, not even suspecting that there was something wrong with the water.
Qiao Wei went to bed and soon fell asleep.
As she slept, Qiao Wei felt someone strangling her. She opened her eyes wide and saw Yan Xi.
Qiao Wei swallowed and asked, "Yan Xi, are you a human or a ghost?"
"What do you think?"
"No, you're not dead. I saw you on the street that day. You're alive, Yan Xi. I didn't expect you to be so lucky and survive that."
Suddenly, Qiao Wei saw He Xin's face. She wanted to explain to He Xin, but didn't know how.
She suddenly sat up and realized it was all just a dream.
Thankfully, it was only a dream.
Qiao Wei looked up and met He Xin's gaze.
Qiao Wei was about to speak, but she met He Xin's look of utter disdain.
The words Qiao Wei was about to say died on her lips.
Qiao Wei looked at He Xin, wondering if she had said anything in her dream that made him hate her.
The dream had been so vivid, Yan Xi had seemed to be right beside her.
Qiao Wei suddenly felt insecure and wanted He Xin to come and comfort her.
However, He Xin ignored Qiao Wei and coldly turned to leave, his demeanor distant.
Qiao Wei, in a state of agitation, tried to chase after him, but her hands were cuffed. Qiao Wei's eyes widened in disbelief. He Xin's figure had long since vanished, replaced by uniformed police officers who were now cuffing her wrists.
Qiao Wei angrily demanded, "What do you people mean by this? Do you know who I am? I am the young madam of the He family. If you dare to offend me, He Xin will be the first to not let you go."
Upon hearing Qiao Wei's words, the police officers burst into laughter as if they had heard the funniest joke.
While Qiao Wei was still fantasizing about He Xin rescuing her, she had no idea what she would think if she knew that He Xin had orchestrated all of this.
Qiao Wei was taken away by the police, still unaware of what was truly happening.
At the front desk, she saw He Xin. Qiao Wei took a step forward, tugged at He Xin's sleeve, and said, "Husband, they're taking me away. Hurry and stop them."
He Xin contemptuously pulled his hand away, putting a significant distance between himself and Qiao Wei, as if she might be contagious.
Qiao Wei hadn't expected He Xin to be so ruthless.
Before, when she had "died," He Xin had even gone to her home to pay his respects.
He Xin had feelings for her.
Things shouldn't have become like this between her and He Xin.
Qiao Wei looked at He Xin in disbelief.
He Xin's voice was extremely indifferent, devoid of any emotion. Looking at Qiao Wei, he said, "We are divorced. Don't call me husband anymore; it's inappropriate."
Qiao Wei shook her head. It wasn't like this. When she had rushed back from the airport to He Xin's office, He Xin hadn't been like this with her.
Qiao Wei couldn't understand why He Xin had suddenly changed so drastically.
"Qiao Wei, you thought I knew nothing about what you did to Yan Xi?"
Qiao Wei shook her head and tried to explain, "Husband, I was misunderstood. I really didn't do anything. I didn't harm Yan Xi. Yan Xi deliberately fell into the sea to frame me. You must believe me! How could I..."
Before Qiao Wei could finish, He Xin directly placed a video recording in front of her.
Upon seeing the recording, Qiao Wei’s prepared explanations vanished.
He Xin didn't even want to look at Qiao Wei. He simply told the police to take her away.
Qiao Wei regretted it. She should have listened to Qiao Xue and not come back.
Indeed, a man's tenderness often marked the beginning of his cruel and heartless actions.
He Xin had treated Qiao Wei so well before, even going to pay his respects and acting like a devoted lover, which made Qiao Wei mistakenly believe that He Xin had feelings for her.
That's why she dared to defy Qiao Xue's arrangements and return to find He Xin.
However, Qiao Wei never imagined that it was all a charade, and that He Xin had only wanted to send her to prison himself.
If Qiao Wei had known He Xin would go this far, she would never have come back.
Yan Xi watched from outside the hotel as Qiao Wei was taken away by the police. Yan Xi felt no sympathy for Qiao Wei; she had brought it upon herself.
Yan Xi took a deep breath and turned to leave.
However, as she turned, she saw Fu Yan Ting.
Yan Xi stopped in her tracks.
She looked at Fu Yan Ting, who was also staring intently at her.
Yan Xi raised an eyebrow and asked indifferently, "Sir, do you need something?"
"Yan Xi, stop pretending. I know you don't have amnesia."
Fu Yan Ting was not fooled by Yan Xi's unconvincing act.
Yan Xi had intended to feign ignorance and brush him off, but since Fu Yan Ting had seen through her, there was no need to continue the pretense.
She swallowed and looked at Fu Yan Ting, asking calmly, "What do you want from me? Tell me."
"Since you're not dead, why haven't you contacted me?"
"What would be the point of contacting you? Would you let me die if I contacted you?"
Fu Yan Ting narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Yan Xi. He disliked the sarcastic tone she was using.
It hadn't been like this between them before. When had their relationship deteriorated into such an unmanageable state?
"Fu Yan Ting, since I've already died once, can you please act as if I am dead and stop bothering me? I'm truly tired and don't want to be entangled with you any longer."
Didn't want to be entangled anymore? Fu Yan Ting found Yan Xi's words amusing and actually laughed out loud in front of her.
