Chapter 4 The Moving Tombstone

Gao Mingqiang kept shouting from behind, "Little girl, don't be impulsive. She doesn't understand you, but I do!"

Seeing Gao Mingqiang make a move, we had no choice but to grip our weapons and follow him, afraid he might be in danger alone in the woods.

After all, a criminal capable of such brutal murders of two women was undoubtedly extremely vicious. We were all armed with guns this time.

However, the car couldn't go any further, so we started on foot.

Grasping our weapons, we ran hard with Gao Mingqiang. Little girl barked excitedly all the way. I wondered what its name was, and if it wanted to alert the criminal.

This time, I felt Little girl was going too far. I wanted to stop it, but at the moment it reached a rock, it squatted down in front. Seeing this, Liu Yuning cursed, "Damn dog, you ran so fast earlier, now you're tired?"

"She's not tired. Little girl is doing this because she's giving a warning!" Gao Mingqiang said seriously.

Little girl quickly stood up and barked a few times, as if to remind us that something was wrong here. Liu Yuning and I, along with others, walked closer to the reef and indeed found bloodstains. Additionally, on a pile of straw, there were signs of a woman's clothing being removed.

"This is bad! Shi Jing Tong seems to have taken another victim!" I said.

"That's right, he'll definitely continue his crimes. We need to find him quickly!" Liu Yuning exclaimed excitedly.

At the same time, she cast a look of approval at Little girl. She had never imagined that a police dog could be so keen.

Little girl's nose was sharp, and it quickly picked up the scent of blood and started running again. Gao Mingqiang said, "Little girl will definitely find Shi Jing Tong!"

We followed it, running for a long time through the mountains, when we saw a building that looked like a stone temple in the distance.

Little girl leaped up immediately and rushed to the front of the stone temple, then squatted down again.

Even without its warning, we could smell a strong scent of blood wafting from inside. Our hearts trembled, and a sense of foreboding washed over us.

The group cautiously entered the cave, guns in hand, not daring to speak. When we reached the interior, we saw a female corpse on a rock inside the cave. The rock was quite unusually shaped, like a crescent moon, piercing through the woman's chest.

The corpse was bent over the sharp stone, blood flowing from her abdomen onto the ground. This time, her toes and fingers had been severed, and crimson liquid was gushing out.

We rushed to her side immediately. The victim's neck was broken, and the wounds on her fingers and toes were enough to cause her to bleed to death.

The perpetrator's methods this time were even more brutal and terrifying. The girl looked no older than 20, and a valuable bracelet remained on her wrist.

Judging by her skin and face, she likely came from a privileged background. We had investigated the previous two victims, and they also came from good families.

The criminal's modus operandi was to target victims from affluent families.

This time, we found some lavender petals on the deceased, and they were also in her mouth.

I suddenly thought of something but looked around and found nothing.

I took out luminol reagent and sprayed it on the cave walls.

A similar North Star pattern appeared, but this time, it was located on the cave wall behind the victim!

Several forensic investigators immediately came over to take photos.

I called for backup. Footprints were left at the scene. Judging by their depth, the perpetrator had left not long ago.

I ran out of the cave and looked around. The back of the cave was sealed, so he must have escaped from the front.

But he probably went around to the back of the cave after coming out. Otherwise, he would have run into us earlier.

I turned and ran up the mountain, alone.

After a while, I realized I had reached the mountainside. Along the way, I found more footprints from the cave. According to the footprints, the perpetrator's height and weight were consistent.

When I reached a place covered with pine trees, I realized I had been too impulsive, coming here alone. This place was filled with thick smoke, and visibility was very low. I raised my weapon and stood guard.

I hoped there would be no danger, but after walking for a while, I heard wolf howls from all around. I remembered that this was Qingcheng Mountain, a desolate mountain in Fuming City. It used to be a scenic tourist area, but a large fire in September last year had almost burned down the entire mountain. Many tourists were on the mountain at the time and were burned to death.

There were rumors online that such mountains were haunted. Daredevils who explored them often saw rotting figures moving among the trees, or felt something pulling them from behind, or heard unidentifiable terrifying screams on the mountain.

He Xin had sent me a lot of information about this place before, but I thought it was too absurd and didn't pay much attention.

Now that I was in this dead, eerie environment, I remembered the strange rumors about Qingcheng Mountain!

I kept moving forward, telling myself that such things didn't exist in the world, and besides, I was a police officer, so what was there to be afraid of?

After walking for a while, I realized I hadn't passed through the pine forest yet, and I seemed to be wandering around the same area. I felt something was wrong. I used a numerical method to mark a circular symbol on a tree, and then continued forward.

About 20 minutes later, I found myself back here again. I cursed, "Damn it, I'm in trouble now. I'm lost in a place like this. I don't know what will happen. If only I hadn't been so impulsive, and if I had come with everyone else, at least I wouldn't be so worried now."

As I hesitated, I suddenly noticed that under a tree not far away, layers of smoke were blown away, and to my surprise, trembling tombstones appeared in the distance!

I rubbed my eyes and, after confirming they were indeed tombstones, didn't dare to move rashly. I took out my phone and looked at the information He Xin had sent me earlier. It did mention the tombstones on Qingcheng Mountain.

If I hadn't seen these tombstones, I would have completely forgotten about this matter. The information said that because so many people had died on the mountain at the time, there was no place to bury them, so their bodies were buried directly here.

Originally, there were no tombstones here, but since the incident, strange things had been happening on Qingcheng Mountain, and many people had been killed here. The government, unable to do anything, sent someone to investigate. It was unknown who suggested erecting tombstones for the deceased here, and thus the tombstones appeared.

It was strange, but after the tombstones were erected, the strange occurrences decreased. However, they couldn't be completely eliminated. I looked at the information with a shiver, genuinely afraid that I would encounter the same danger as the people mentioned in the records. I shook my head and told myself, "I am a descendant of the He family, how can I be cowardly?"

I quickened my pace. This time, I didn't use traditional methods to advance, otherwise, I knew I would return here again. I tried my best to orient myself, but I walked for a long time without getting out. By the time darkness slowly descended, I was still able to see my surroundings without a flashlight.

I moved through the darkness. I was initially walking at a distance from the tombstones, but the more I avoided them, the more the tombstones seemed to move towards me.

This is too bizarre! How could this be?

I was incredibly surprised. If I stood still now, facing these tombstones would only make me more fearful.

If I moved, I would get even closer to the tombstones!

So, I simply closed my eyes and walked. But after a while, I realized how foolish my actions were.

I walked into the tombstones and my feet touched gravestones. When I opened my eyes, I saw white, skeletal bones exposed beneath the tombstones. I avoided them and continued walking. For some reason, near a certain tombstone, a swift black shadow suddenly flickered past.

Its body was low to the ground, like a crawling insect, wearing scorched black clothes. Its body touched the ground, making a rustling sound, but this sound was somewhat like fingers scratching on a coffin lid. My scalp tingled. I tightened my grip on my weapon and moved closer, threatening, "Stop!"

The other party showed no fear of my gun and continued to weave between the tombstones. Its movements were like a monkey's. The guy was too fast, and my gun couldn't aim no matter how I pointed it. In the next second, my neck was entangled by something, a furry hand wrapped around it!
