Chapter 50

Chapter 50: Chapter 50

After Triton told her parents about the fact that Maria was pregnant for him, they stared at him like they didn’t believe it.

"How can she be pregnant?" Laura spat, while crunching her face in a disgusted manner.

Triton went ahead to tell them of how they were mates, and how she rejected him. He was careful not to reveal the part that he rejected her first in the tavern.

Surprisingly, Laura’s mood was switched from being sad about her daughter’s death to being upset that she wasn’t pure.

Triton left as soon as he dropped the news. Trevor, the king of the rogues, had refused to respond to the letter. Triton had sent countless messages, informing him that the forger needed more gifted women, but Trevor just kept ignoring them.

When Triton couldn’t keep up with being ignored, he decided to pay Trevor a visit. While he was talking with Trevor, a familiar scent hung in the air. It felt exactly like Maria, but she was dead and it couldn’t be her.

He was surprised that his rogue brother had found a mate. Finding one was almost impossible for rogues.

The irony of Trevor’s defense only made Triton chuckle. He was trying to back down from serving him. When the disagreement escalated into a fight, Triton left, warning his brother to do what he asked.

He had to return to Veilwood for Maria’s burial. The parents had told him sternly that he had to pay respect to her and the dead unborn child by being present, even if they didn’t tell him, he was still going to be present.

THE BURIAL

It was done under the half moon at midnight. That was their tradition in carrying out burials. Not everyone in the pack was present, just her parents, Sasha, Brian, Triton and the family of the guard and captain who had also died in the accident.

They recited prayers for their souls to be at rest, and dropped flowers at the stone which was erected for each of them.

Alpha Reynolds compensated the family of the two guards and the captain who had lost their lives while being of service to Veilwood.

Sasha stared at Brian in disgust as he was crying while the prayers were said. "Why did I even bother snatching such a wimpy man?" She muttered to herself.

She nudged him with her elbow, signaling him to keep his composure.

"She’s my sister and I haven’t even cried in the way that you’re crying."

Sasha just stared at the erected stones with a face devoid of emotion. She didn’t feel happy about her sister’s death, and she didn’t feel sad either, but she still hoped that Maria’s soul would find peace.

The burial dispersed and the families of the other deceased people left.

"Sasha, we have to speak to you," Laura called out.

Sasha turned and gave them her full attention, together with Brian.

"Alone." Reynolds added. Brian quickly excused himself.

Sasha had a couple of thoughts running in her head. What could her parents possibly have to say? She couldn’t think of anything. "Maybe it was something regarding Maria’s death," she thought to herself.

"Your sister is dead." Laura said. "Your father wants to retire from being alpha. The people would expect a new alpha to be crowned on the next full moon."

Sasha took a deep breath, wondering if they wanted to crown her husband, Brian as the alpha.

Her father took over. "You have an alpha wolf and with your sister gone, you’d have to take my place."

Sasha smiled. The news was even juicer than what she had expected it to be.

"Sasha, we know you might be occupied with your marriage, but someone has to take it from your father."

"I would become Alpha, there’s nothing to be worried about. I know Maria’s death has hurt everyone, and I don’t want anything else to bother both of you."

"That’s good. My father and I were almost scared you’d turn it down because you’re now married."

"Turn it down?" Sasha chuckled to herself. If there was anything she felt about this news, happiness was an understatement to describe it. The only thing missing was that Maria wasn’t alive for her to rub it in her face that she had taken something from her once again.

"Sasha, you need to tell your husband that you’d be staying back at Veilwood. We need to start preparing for the coronation. You need to learn the laws of our land." Reynolds informed her.

She nodded her head. "I’d tell him."

When her parents were done passing the message, Sasha didn’t waste time to tell Brian about everything. He was happy for her about the golden opportunity that had been served, and promised her that he’d be the most supportive husband and mate.

Sasha settled together with Brian in her former room.

Reynolds met with Triton again, confiding in him about the set of young women who had gone missing from the pack. As usual, Triton told him that he’d work on it and he should just give him more time to carry out his investigations.

Reynolds had already tried all possible means to get back the lost women, confiding in the witches who made outrageous requests, but still didn’t solve anything. He even conducted a search when anyone went missing, but it was futile.

Although Solara had mentioned of not feeling the seer connection with Maria, Reynolds still wondered if Maria was alive and had gone missing just like the women who went missing. Or could it be worse that the missing people were dead and their bodies discarded where no one could find?

Meanwhile, after the burial and his talk with alpha Reynolds, Triton was already on his way to meet the forger. He had to inform the forger about his brother who refused to continue doing their bidding.

Triton was aware of how he was running out of time and the forger had to help him before it was too late. He cussed his bastard brother for trying to draw out of the deal they made.
