Chapter 54 The Corpse Tide

"Cough, cough, cough." Ling Feng, standing at the train door, accidentally inhaled some dust, causing him to struggle for breath.

"What just happened?"

Shi Yu crouched on the ground, still shaken. He held Xiu An tightly in his arms, the events of moments ago having happened too quickly.

He had only heard the sound of the train moving, followed by a sudden, violent impact that nearly knocked him off his feet. Fortunately, he had heeded Ling Feng's warning and everyone had crouched down in time, otherwise, they might have suffered head injuries.

"A runaway train. Fortunately, we were quick enough; otherwise, we'd likely have been crushed into pulp by now," Ling Feng explained, his eyes still wide with fear as he glanced at the mangled section where the two trains had collided.

That impact, had he been at the collision point, would have broken his bones even as a cultivator at the eighth level of Qi Refinement.

The reason Shi Yu and his companions survived in the movie was that they weren't at the point of impact but were merely knocked over by the side of a train.

"Alright, let's make haste and get moving," Ling Feng said, helping an elderly woman up from the ground.

"This door is stuck!" Rong Guo tried to open the door but found it jammed.

"There's a window-breaking hammer here," Shi Yu pointed to the hammer mounted on the wall.

"Everyone move aside, let me do it." Ling Feng felt the window hammer was too slow. He pushed Rong Guo aside and punched the glass, shattering it instantly.

"Holy hell!" Rong Guo and Shi Yu were startled by the display. Shattering a train's reinforced glass with a single punch.

"Brother, you've got some serious strength," Shang Hua exclaimed, impressed. While he could break the glass with his own strength, it wouldn't be as effortless as Ling Feng's.

"Quickly, this isn't a safe place," Ling Feng said, shaking his hand. As long as they weren't in Busan, danger lurked everywhere. They couldn't stay in one place for too long; the risk was too high.

"Okay." Shang Hua and the others wasted no more time and began to act. Shang Hua, being one of the few capable fighters present, was the first to jump through the broken window onto the gravel path.

"Here, Sheng Jing." After crossing, Shang Hua immediately helped Sheng Jing down.

Next was the elderly sisters, one by one.

Just then, Ling Feng heard shouts, screams for help, and the sound of running from behind him. He frowned and turned around.

The train carriage door next to theirs was pulled open, and Director Kim, his face pale with fear, rushed towards him. Seeing Ling Feng, Director Kim's eyes lit up, and he shouted, "Save me! Please save me!"

Ling Feng glanced behind Director Kim and saw several zombies, their mouths agape and claws extended, following him.

Noticing Ling Feng wasn't paying him much attention, Director Kim had an idea.

He could have Ling Feng hold off the zombies behind him, buying him time to escape. Perhaps Ling Feng could even kill these few zombies, giving him even more time.

Without hesitation, Director Kim grabbed Ling Feng's arm and tried to pull him back.

If Ling Feng had been an ordinary person, he might have fallen into Director Kim's trap.

But Ling Feng was no ordinary person. The moment he felt Director Kim's pull, he reacted instantly, understanding Director Kim's intentions.

"Damn it!"

His body moved instinctively, and he kicked Director Kim in the chest, sending him tumbling to the ground.

"Roar!"

As Director Kim fell, his face contorted in fear. He tried to get up immediately, but the zombies behind him gave him no chance. They pounced on him, tearing into his flesh and ripping off a chunk of meat. Fresh blood gushed out.

"Ah! No! Help! Save me! Please save me!"

Director Kim cried out in agony. The pain of flesh being ripped from his body was comparable to childbirth.

Ling Feng felt no pity for Director Kim. This was his own doing. If Director Kim had simply run back into the carriage, Ling Feng wouldn't have acted. But Director Kim had tried to get him killed, so he couldn't be blamed.

Ling Feng, seeing the approaching zombies, quickly shut the carriage door. There were still people inside, and the narrow space made fighting zombies too dangerous.

"Brother Ling Feng, hurry up and get out! Lots of zombies are coming from the left!"

After the homeless man had crossed, Shang Hua noticed a large horde of zombies appearing on their right, rushing towards them. He anxiously shouted through the window at Ling Feng, who was still inside the carriage.

"Coming." Hearing about the approaching horde, Ling Feng dared not linger. He took a few steps forward and leaped out of the window with fluid grace.

After a month of special training with the 'Cloud-Stealing Wind-Borrowing True Monarch,' Ling Feng's agility was now several times greater than before his transmigration.

"Let's go quickly." With Ling Feng out, everyone hurried towards the moving train nearby.

"Roar, roar, roar!"

Behind Ling Feng and the others, countless zombies were attracted by the noise of the train and chased after them with renewed vigor.

It could be said that all the zombies in the area were now following Ling Feng and his group.

Ling Feng glanced back. The scene before him was far more shocking and terrifying than anything in the movies.

The zombies were densely packed together, surging towards them in a frenzy, like a black tide that filled them with dread. This tide was about to engulf them.

"Get on the train quickly!" The train conductor emerged from the driver's cabin, jumped off the train, and ran to help the slowest two sisters forward. With the conductor's assistance, the sisters quickened their pace.

At this moment, everyone except Ling Feng was running for their lives. Soon, they reached the train, helping each other up the stairs.

Ling Feng was the last to board. Just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, an unexpected change occurred.

A zombie grabbed the railing at the back of the train. Then, like a game of Jenga, more and more zombies clung to the first zombie, climbing forward. Several zombies had already grabbed onto any available part of the train's rear.

The train now seemed to be dragging a large blanket, but this blanket was made of people. The sheer number of zombies even slowed the train, causing everyone's hearts to race again.

"Conductor, go to the driver's cabin and make the train accelerate!"

"Shi Yu, Shang Hua, Rong Guo, the four of us, quickly! Let's pry off the hands of these zombies clinging to the train."

Ling Feng shouted. Since the train hadn't picked up speed yet, if they could catch up to it, the zombies could too. With a large group of zombies clinging on, the train's speed would only decrease. If this continued, he might be able to escape, but Shi Yu and the others would surely die.

"Okay."

Those called by name acted swiftly. Ling Feng and the other three worked at the back of the train to pry off the zombies' grasping hands, while the conductor returned to the driver's cabin and accelerated the train to its maximum speed.

Soon, Ling Feng and the three others had removed all the hands clinging to the train, and the train's speed finally increased. At this point, everyone could finally relax a little.

But as one crisis ended, another began.

"Roar!!!"

Not long after they had pulled away, an enraged roar reached Ling Feng's ears.

Ling Feng turned his head and his pupils contracted sharply! A colossal creature was closely following the train, drawing nearer and nearer.

"What kind of monster is that?! It can actually keep up with a train! This wasn't in the movie Train to Busan at all!"
