The surrounding walls were covered with one terrifying face after another.
Imagine the feeling of your surrounding walls being made entirely of human faces.
This underground location was precisely like that.
These faces were almost identical to the monster I had seen earlier.
The two of us forcibly steadied our nerves and continued forward.
What came into view were rows upon rows of huge glass jars.
Just like the ones we had seen outside.
In the two glass jars closest to us, there was no longer any liquid.
At the bottom of each jar were two shriveled corpses, which in shape, were identical to the previous monster.
However, these two shriveled corpses were significantly smaller, giving the impression of being malnourished.
It was unknown how long these corpses had been here, yet they showed no signs of decay.
Lin Chun was about to knock on the glass to investigate, but I stopped him.
We continued onward. After taking only a couple of steps, I froze in place.
From where I stood and further ahead, there were still more than a dozen glass jars.
Those glass jars had been broken open, and there was no liquid inside them either.
It was unclear if it had been absorbed or had evaporated, and there were no monster corpses inside.
"This..." Lin Chun also sensed something was wrong.
Judging by the number of glass jars, at least twenty monsters had broken out.
I carefully examined the labels on the glass jars. Many parts were corroded, but the labels on these twenty-odd jars were not all the same.
I didn't understand what this represented, so I could only continue moving forward.
We walked all the way to the front of the rows of glass jars. Lin Chun suddenly pulled me and pointed ahead.
I followed his gaze and discovered that at the end of these glass jars stood a colossal glass jar.
Based on its volume, this one giant jar was at least five times the size of the ordinary ones!
The monster I had seen earlier was about my height.
If this glass jar also contained a monster, would that mean the monsters here were at least five times my height?
I looked at the base of the glass jar. At that spot, a monster was leaning against it, green blood still flowing from its chest.
This was the monster I had attacked earlier!
At this moment, the monster appeared to be on its last breath. Its face showed no expression.
Only when we approached did the monster slowly open its eyes. In those emotionless pupils, a hint of a cold smile seemed to flicker.
"What now?" Lin Chun looked at me.
"Kill him!" I said, my short sword once again engulfed in flames.
I charged forward.
I had expected the monster to resist, but to my surprise, it remained seated, not moving at all.
I didn't have time to figure out why. My short sword struck out.
Carrying terrifying flames, it fiercely impacted the monster's head.
The short sword, covered in flames, seemed to be the monster's natural nemesis. With a single strike, its head was split in two.
This time, the monster was thoroughly dead.
Green blood gushed out, scattering on the ground and emitting a foul odor.
Lin Chun went to inspect and, after confirming the monster was completely dead, slowly exhaled.
Meanwhile, I cast my gaze around.
In the faint firelight, the surroundings became visible. This place felt like a storage room. The glass jars around here must have been broken open a long time ago.
If all the monsters inside had escaped, what a terrifying prospect that would be!
I dared not even imagine what it would be like if such a number of monsters attacked our city...
But I had no time to dwell on such thoughts. Based on the current situation, there should only be the entrance we came through.
And that entrance had not been opened.
This suggested that the monsters should not have left.
But if they hadn't left, where did they go?
Without the liquids in the glass jars, how had they survived in this place?
Just as I was pondering this, Lin Chun's gaze locked onto the monster's corpse.
I looked back, "Did you find something?"
Lin Chun walked up and moved the monster's corpse aside.
I saw that beneath the corpse was a hole.
The hole wasn't large; I estimated it would be difficult even for my body to squeeze through.
"Did this monster lie here by accident, or was it deliberately blocking the hole?" Lin Chun asked, frowning.
I remained silent, as I had no clue.
Logically, the monster should have still had the ability to resist just now, yet it blocked the hole with its body...
