Chapter 5 Encountering an Acquaintance

Shangguan Yao hid in my arms, trembling.

I felt my body stiffen, as if something was blowing a gentle breeze by my ear.

"Holy crap, what did you see? Don't scare me!"

As a person, I'm not afraid of any wild beast, but I am afraid of ghosts!

Suddenly, Shangguan Yao's small hand lightly touched my waist. I jolted and, without thinking, sprang up, grabbed the computer nearby, and spun around to hurl it.

Whatever ghost or demon you are, I'll smash your head open!

"Bang!"

The computer hit a tree, bounced a few times, and fell to the ground.

I looked at the empty rainforest, then at Shangguan Yao with a puzzled expression.

"There's nothing here, what the hell did you see?"

Is this Shangguan Yao deliberately messing with me? But her reaction didn't seem fake.

Shangguan Yao curled up, instinctively moving away from the rainforest.

"I was just about to sleep when I saw a pair of red eyes watching me from the rainforest."

Seeing the fear in Shangguan Yao's expression, I didn't think she was faking it. Perhaps something in the rainforest had indeed been watching her.

So, I said in a deep voice, "You go to sleep first. I'll stand guard tonight and set up some things."

Shangguan Yao looked at me with some surprise. Seeing that I had indeed taken a torch from the fire and intended to stand guard, she grabbed my clothes and said in a low voice through gritted teeth, "Um, don't stand guard anymore. I was just teasing you."

What the hell?

After hearing Shangguan Yao's words, I was first stunned, then a surge of nameless anger erupted.

"Is this fun for you? At a time like this, you're still joking? Do you think we're here for a camping trip?"

Shangguan Yao knew she was in the wrong. Seeing how angry I was, she said a little aggrievedly, "Who told you to be so fierce to me several times during the day? Can't I trick you just once?"

I really doubted how Shangguan Wan managed to become a CEO. Was it just because she was born into a good family?

I felt extremely speechless and just wanted to find a place to be alone for a while.

Shangguan Yao bit her lip. "I saw a bug just now, that's why I was scared and hugged you. I really didn't lie to you. Please don't be angry anymore, okay?"

Looking at the pitiful Shangguan Yao in front of me, the anger in my heart immediately dissipated.

"Let's forget about this for today. Sleep!"

I threw the torch back into the fire, lay down on the ground, and fell asleep.

Seeing that I had fallen asleep, Shangguan Yao gently leaned towards me and slept with her arm in mine.

The next morning, the bright sun shone on me and woke me up.

The campfire beside me had gone out at some point. I rubbed my rumbling stomach and saw Shangguan Yao sleeping soundly, holding my arm.

This little brat sleeps so restlessly. I broke free from Shangguan Yao's grip, rubbed my arm vigorously to relieve the soreness.

Shangguan Yao was also startled by my movement. She rubbed her eyes, got up, and stretched. Her stomach also rumbled.

Her little face blushed. "Is there anything to eat? I'm starving."

Where would there be any food? Maybe you should eat me, I thought to myself.

I handed her the bottle of water I had found in the suitcase yesterday.

"Drink some water first, then we'll go find something to eat together."

With thirst in front of her, she stopped nagging me about whether I had drunk any.

The reason I didn't go into the rainforest yesterday was because I had weighed the safety issues. After all, on this deserted island, life is more important than anything else.

Searching within a safe range was still the best strategy.

But I stretched and searched the beach, and my heart sank.

There was nothing on this beach!

After much thought, I decided I had to use the old method: go into the sea to catch fish.

By the time I returned, Shangguan Yao had already drawn a large SOS signal on the beach.

I drank half of the remaining half-bottle of water and said to Shangguan Yao, "I'm going into the sea to see if I can catch any fish. You watch the clothes."

After saying that, I took off my clothes, revealing my well-proportioned physique.

"Be quick and come back soon!"

Shangguan Yao said, blushing, while secretly looking at me.

I stretched my arms, took a deep breath, and dove into the water.

This cursed island is truly bizarre!

It seemed like the island's tides were not governed by the earth. The tide had risen several times.

I went into the water several times but was washed back, achieving nothing and only exhausting myself.

I wanted to catch some clams and scallops to fill my stomach, but it seemed they had all moved away overnight. I couldn't find a single one.

"Can you even do it?"

Shangguan Yao stood beside me, arms crossed, looking at me with some impatience.

"Whether I can or not, you'll find out if you try," I retorted sarcastically.

Suddenly, I remembered the crab holes I had seen on the beach yesterday and ran towards them.

Shangguan Yao had wanted to retort, but seeing me suddenly run towards the sea, she quickly followed.

As soon as Shangguan Yao caught up, she saw me like a savage, digging frantically in the sand with my hands, getting covered in mud.

"You're so wild, have you gone crazy from hunger? What are you doing here?"

"Don't worry about what I'm doing. Will you eat the food I get later?"

I was so hungry that I had no patience to explain in detail to Shangguan Yao. I just wanted her to shut up.

Shangguan Yao snorted, crossed her arms, and turned to walk back to the shelter.

I wiped the sweat from my face. Have the crabs also moved away? I had no luck for a long time.

My gaze inadvertently swept to the side, and I saw something struggling in the excavated soil.

I was curious and pulled it out. It was a plump mudfish!

I was overjoyed and immediately continued digging. Soon, I found several more.

I quickly wrapped them in my clothes, then used my fingers as a fishing rod, carefully holding the mudfish, and approached the crab holes.

Heaven rewards the diligent!

After a while, the small crabs that I couldn't find even after digging three feet deep began to poke their heads out one by one, and I easily caught them.

Seeing that the sun was halfway across the sky, and I was drenched in sweat from the heat, I finally gathered a full pocket of small crabs and headed back.

When I returned, I saw that Shangguan Yao had already collected a lot of branches and was dozing under a rock.

"Look what I brought back?"

Shangguan Yao was startled awake by my voice. She was about to get angry, but seeing the pile of small crabs I brought back, she was overjoyed.

I skillfully threw the branches into the campfire, and the rekindled fire allowed me to skewer the small crabs one by one on the remaining wooden sticks from last night and roast them.

Shangguan Yao and I were too hungry to say anything.

Only when the crabs were ready did we wolf them down.

After eating our fill, Shangguan Yao suddenly stood up and sincerely bowed to me.

"I'm very sorry. I feel like I've misunderstood you all along. You are truly a kind person."

Shangguan Yao said to me with a sincere and gentle expression.

I was very pleased with her praise. I didn't expect this little brat to finally grow some brains.

I waved my hand. "I just did what I could."

"That alone makes you better than many people. We don't know how many more days we'll be on this deserted island. I hope there won't be any misunderstandings between us. We can support each other until the rescue team arrives."

After speaking, Shangguan Yao looked at me with her big eyes.

I suddenly understood. No wonder this little brat had suddenly changed her tune; she was waiting for me here!

It seemed this Shangguan Yao was not stupid either. She knew she couldn't survive alone on this deserted island, and she didn't know when rescue would come. Two people are better than one.

I followed Shangguan Yao's lead and engaged in some mutual flattery.

The distance between Shangguan Yao and me suddenly narrowed significantly, and the look in her eyes softened.

As we were chatting, there was a sudden violent commotion from the rainforest behind me.

Shangguan Yao shrieked and clutched my arm nervously.

I swallowed, cautiously picked up a thick branch from the ground, and gestured for Shangguan Yao to shush.

Shangguan Yao covered her mouth with both hands and nodded at me. I tiptoed forward.

Damn it, even if it's a lion or a tiger, I'll tear a piece of flesh off you!

The commotion in the rainforest grew closer and closer. My adrenaline surged, and I raised the wooden stick above my head, waiting for it to come out so I could give it a good show.

Closer, even closer!

I widened my eyes and swung forward with all my might.

But then I saw two people emerge from the rainforest!

And they were acquaintances!
